Trying Limitical for the first time but scared to

I am going to try, I think, Limitrical for mild bi-polar and a lot for depressin (for years), but I am scared of the rash thing, hives (which I get real abd , if I do get oit and gaining weight. Also, justt darn scared.
anyone start this drug and not have problems. I am sick of started and stopping meds to find the right one. that is more depressing than the meds itself. makes you want to give it up! Gina

I just need input on how many people got the rash right away and other things. I am starting at 1/2 of a 25ml of Lamotrigine tabs for a week , then a whole then another 1/2 added etc. I would appreciate any input . Gina1

My regiment is Lamictal, Celexa and Trazadone. So far, this is the concoction that has worked best for me. I had no problem with the rash or gaining weight. As long as you follow the doctors orders about how to start it off, you shouldn't have a problem with the rash. Best of luck to you on the new meds. The medication I had the worst issue with, as far as gaining weight and making things worse, was Depakote.

I'm on Lamictal and it has been awesome for me. I'm BPII mostly depressed and that with an ssri has lifted me out of a bad depression. I've never had trouble with the rash...I think it is very rare to get the rash.

I agree with pretty much everyone else. I was so hesitant to start drugs, after failing with prozac, and go through the trial and test of which ones and what dosages, but Lamictal (with Abilify) has been awesome. Started on a tiny dosage and I'm working my way towards 200mg (and 10mg) and I haven't had a single side effect. And 90% of the depression has gone away. Now, is there a drug to bring on mania more often...Bill throw me a devilish smile here!

Hi Gina!  Welcome to HW!

I tried Lamictal because the side effect risk was less than other drugs and blood testing isn't required to check drug levels.  (Blood draws are a huge trigger for me.)

It is a MIRACLE drug for me.  I have almost no side effects and my moods are stable...  when I remember to take it but that is another story in itself.  :)

It is a pretty small number who get the rash. It can be a hard decision. This stuff did wonder for me. Who knows what it is doing to my brain though. My memory sometimes is so sharp, othertimes mid sentence I forget what I am even talking about. haha

i was started on lamictal for the depression side of bipolar disorder and had no problems until the dosage his 100mg-200mg i got bad rashes, loss my appetite, my boobs went down a whole cup size, and i've lost so much weight, i'm already tiny so that's not a good thing either!! my stomach always hurts and no matter how long i'm sleep i'm still tired, it gives me horrible migraines...im constantly horny and not to be personal but now im very dry down there..i hate lamictal and im switching to dilantion which is for the mania side of bipolar disorder which is what i have...

oh and also it hasnt helped me with my bipolar mania a bit i still get BAD mood swings..lamictal seem to piss me off worse

Yeah - Lamictal doesn't do anything for mania. Which is why is workes beautifully for me. Sorry to hear your bad experience - I hope you find the right meds soon!

I did not get the rash and was also concerned about wt gain.  Lamictal did not make me gain any wt.  You should know right away if you will get a rash.  Lamictal is a good drug, it saved my life.
