Hi, I post on a cancer forum here for me, but I am ok and I would like anybody's advice for my wife. My wife has been depressed for most of our married life of 29 years. She had a nervous breakdown 22 years ago when our children were very young, 2 and 3 exactly. She was extremely homesick, my job kept me far away from her home town. She did fine after 1 week in state hospital, has seen a psychiatrist all this time, taking multiple antidepressants. She was functional up to last year, 2009, when our grown daughter graduated from college and moved to South America, our pet dog of 15 years died, and then my wife's mother died from Alzheimer's, CHF. Not totally unexpected. After that my wife became catatonic, would not eat, bathe herself, or take her medicine. She ended up in 4 hospitals in 6 weeks, one week pysch, came home for a week, no better, back to another psych hospital, became wc bound in next hospital due to she has MS and they took her off her medicine to treat major depression. She developed blood clots in her legs, put in an ICU, got through that, another psych hosptial, then she came home, went to daycare program at outpatient psych center. Currently seeing psychiatrist, on seroquel xr, pristique, temazepam. Depression continues, cries almost everyday. She can drive a car, goes grocery shopping, has become agrophophic, will not leave house except for md visits, and grocery shopping, church with me. What about shock therapy? Anybody had experience with shock therapy? My wife says she doesnt want to live anymore like this........
