Thanks for the resource, Almita. I read it and it appears to be that
Roche Pharmaceuticals has developed the drug which acts on the negative symptoms of schizophrenia, while all other medications
have served to reduce the "positive" symptoms, such as hallucinations.
This medication inhibits the re-uptake of glycine permitting proper
neurotransmitter functioning in the brain.
Large-numbers testing has not been done yet, so Roche still has that step to climb, but it offers a major break through for schizophrenic patients if the drug appears efficacious for humans. (Some testing has already been done on humans, and there are a few problems with reactions for several.)
This was an interesting article, Almita. Patients who are schizophrenic may wish to keep in touch with their doctors a few years from now if the drug is approved.
