Hi, Forever 7,
My experience has been that it takes 7 days to stop the sugar cravings when you remove all sugars from your diet and about
2 weeks to remove the craving for grains. But what wonderful feelings attend that!! It's easier to do than stopping smoking, but about
as difficult as stopping caffeine and chocolate and maybe more rewarding than any of them!
Your husband is a pharmacist. Ask him about
how to help you stop the cravings. For me, it was molybdenum (a trace mineral) that stabilized the desire for sugar, but for you it may be something your husband can recommend.
I found a paperback called "The Sacred Art of Fasting--Preparing to Practice" by Thomas Ryan, CSP wonderful for inspiration to change the diet to a very healthy one. It explains the value of fasting in religions as clearly as one could wish and is an inducement to begin to practice some form of either fasting or modified fasting as a regular dietary practice.
When I get discouraged about
trying to stay on a good diet, I read again portions of this paperback and it brings my train of thought right back in line. (I am never successful with modest diet changes. For me, it's doing some fasting from time to time to regain perspective.)
Take care.
