New to Bipolar although have life time "symptoms"

Hello all. I am new here. My name is Kristen but you may call me Kris if you like. I have a lot of medical problems...but I was recently diagnosed with Bipolar. Although all my life I have had manic and depressive "symptoms" (not sure of correct word).

Even as a little girl, from infancy I would have times where I would stay up for days. Every night till wee hours in the morning I would do anything and everything to not go to sleep. Now as an adult there are periods I will be up for 2+ days and not be one bit tired. I also have the reverse, I get really tired and cannot fall asleep. I get racing thoughts, panic about things that most likely wont happen, just cannot get comfortable.

Ever since a kid I would have outbursts. When I was a toddler and elementary age I would hold my breath till I turned blue and pass out. I would "flip out" and scream and yell over things that I did not like. I would throw a temper tantrum and kick and scream, sometimes roll around on the floor if I did not get my way. I cannot sit still. I get very irritable. The littlest things annoy me. I have low patience sometimes. I procrastinate. I cannot focus. I am very emotional at times and sensitive. Easily to tears. I cant think of others at the moment, but think this is very fair to say these all happen at least 5 days out of 7 a week.


Other psych diseases I been diagosed with is Clinical Depression (as a child around 1993 was diagnosed), Anxiety/Panic Disorder (2008), PTSD (2010), ADHD (2002).

I am also currently on SSDI for my PTSD which was very severe at diagnosics where I would have severe anxiety about leaving my house let alone my bedroom. But I am doing much better and even going back to school in the fall for accounting. I want to be better. I dont like feeling like this. I want to go to school. I want to work. I want to function in a "normal" adult setting.

I am on Lamtical, Depakote, Risperdone, Trileptal, Paxil, Kolopian (as needed), Adderall for my Psych meds. (Sorry if I misspelled some dont have bottles in front of me.)

I also have type 1.5 diabetes (insulin dependent), and IBS, and some food intolerances/sensitivities and a shellfish/seafood allergy.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I appreciate all the help you can give me. If you recommend books, that's great as I love to do reading and research about my medical conditions.

Hi Charmy, I dont know what type I have...I was just diagnosed 3 weeks ago. The psychiatric Nurse is currently changing my meds...so I'm going up on depakote and lamtical and down on the trileptal. The others are staying the same. I am in counseling therapy weekly, but not sure of other types of therapy. I heard about light therapy but not sure if that will work. I will look into the two types of bipolar and ask the Nurse (shes a NP) what type next time I go. I will look for that book at the library. Thank you.

 

  Hi kris, welcome.  BP is not a death sentence.  It is what you make of it. Feel free to ask what you need to know. WE are here and have found many different solutions to many different issues. Maybe some will work for you.
