On Sunday 28th October 2012 I will be competing in the Ironman 70.3 Miami, which is a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike followed by 13.1 mile run.
Why am I doing this? My overal outcome is to raise awareness and funds for much needed research in mental health, for the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation, who provide research grants to create breakthroughs in mental health.
Over resent years more and more brain deliberating drugs are being prescribed for people who are challenged by mental health, which result in many life challenging side effects. I strongly believe there are alternatives out there, these alternatives need to be funded with private funds not supported by drug companies who have a primary interest to get people on medication to make more money.
Am aiming to take 45 mins of my 1st Ironman 70.3, which I completed in May this year in a time of 6 hours 14 mins.
My goal is to raise awareness for mental health and $20,000 for the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation.
Although we are challenged my mental health and bipolar, we too can step up and take control of all aspects of our health.
What you measure you can manage, what you manage you can improve. Thesefore I will be using my Balance Scorecard approach to measure moods, emotions, diet, fitness and the river of life (blood results), and nutritional products I'm taking during this time.
I will be blogging my progress and providing updates along this exciting journey.
Fitness is a key component to mental health, as it is in life in general.
Be keen to hear of your fitness goals, whether it be to walk, run, swin, bike, yoga etc
