I have both Bi-Polar and Borderline Personality which is the new name for our condition. Just like when it used to be Manic-Depressive then it transitioned to BP and now it is transitioning to BPD. I had 3 years of cognitive behavioral therapy when I changed over to BP, it really helped A Lot! I have heard good things about
DBT , my psych doc wants me to take it but its a 9 month commitment and you can't miss any classes
and I have way to many medical issues to make a 9 month commitment to anything. One of the reasons they are starting to tack on the BPD diagnosis is for insurance, its a new diagnosis so it restarts your or his treatment plus there is a whole other class of drugs they can give out for BPD. I'm happy with my 600mg of Lithium and 50mg of Pristiq but i have a brain tumor so they can't throw pills at me
. Hope this helps, at least your son is participating in treatment which is more than i can say for my 21yr. old daughter.
