My husband and I have been together for 3 years and married for 2. He is a wonderful man who can make me the happiest girl in the world. I knew when we got together that he had been diagnosed with bipolar a few years before we met but he was not and hadn't been on medication for awhile. It was never an issue he got along amazing and always seemed to have fun together. Then about 3 mon. Ago we moved and he was depressed for about a month when all of a sudden he relapsed after being clean for 8 years. After that everything seemed to changed... I'm not going to lie and say it cause me to have some trust issues but all the while i still am doing my best to work past it. Now he just seems to hate me, gets angry at a moments notice and is unwilling to compromise on anything ( an example would be he will spend hours on his phone and gets very defensive if I say anything) he tells me because I ask him to put the phone away for a few hours to spend some one on one time with me he becomes angry and will say mean things to hurt me. I hate seeing him like this because this isn't the man I married the man I married is sweet and loving. I know he is in there somewhere and I don't want to give up but I feel like if it doesn't change soon I can't keep doing this.. He has an appointment on oct 4th to go see a dr to get back on bi polar meds but its still weeks away I don't know what to do... I need advise can anyone help me?

I've been in his position. I thought I didn't need meds. I only lasted 6 mos off them though. I am also not a happy manic. I get aggressive and mean. My ex hubby seemed to think it would go away. And when it didn't he ditched me for a girl not much older than our daughter. We were married 17 years and the separation hit me looked a ton of bricks. It might take a few weeks but he will get back to normal. And he may not even remember being mean. He has a disease, you have to decide if you can go through this with him. A wise psychiatrist once told me not to make any major decisions when manic or severely depressed, and she told my ex the same thing. That is some of the best advice I've ever heard. If you can tough it out just a bit longer, the man you love is still in there. Best wishes to you.- K

Hello and my name is douglas. I have been diagnosed with bp since 2003. I went through the stage that u are going through from 2002-2005.

On a forum, such as this, and you asking for advice. I will directly answer you bearing in mind that I may not be correct.

No sex by late 04'. Bought property and built a $30,000 out building seperete from main house. didnt eat out there we just had our own beds and spaces.

Didnt work; why would it? By its very design, it was built,essentially, though denied, for a failed marrige.

End of story.

We went back to portland... from mcminnville, OR, and we got seperate places and filed for divorce in in 2006 or there'bouts... it was over we just didnt get around to filing papers.

But, this might not apply to you and your sisuation. But, it might.

Flat out, I interprete this as some thing that is just going to get worse; the beginning of the end started a ways back.

My interpretation of your submitted explanation is based only on my experience of what you are communicating to the best of your ability... It is impossible for actions, reactions, and the emotions expressed, based on prior interpreted experiences... be the same, for you and I both. So, really, this is likely not at all the whole truth of what is happening. But, hopefully get some thing out of it.

I have to chime in on this being a BP recovering addict. There is no cure for Bi-Polar and no cure for addiction they can only be treated and treatment for both is a lifelong process. If your husband goes back on meds but isn't clean he will abuse them, cause that's what we do, he will need to treat both to get back on an even road. That being said, you knew what you were getting into when you married him, if you weren't willing to take the good with the bad you shouldn't have said I Do. That mean, ugly, dissapointing person may not be your fairy tale man but he still IS the man you married so if this is more than you can handle you had better get out now and I hope you haven't brought any innocent's into this. If you do decide you can love ALL of him, I would suggest counseling, for you, and a support group like NarAnon or AlAnon to help you stay sane even when he isn't.
