I broke up with my daughter's father over a month ago. I wouldn't agree to shared parenting but offered time that was equal to 40/60. He refused mediation and separation counseling and is now going for full custody based on my bipolar disorder. My daughter is only 21 months old.
I have never been hospitalized because of my disorder, I have a full time job, I am a graduate student going for my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
I saw a topic on here earlier about this as well, and I was wondering how it turned out. We go to court in November and even though I've always been on medication and have a huge support network that would vouch for me, I'm still worried sick. It's all up to the judge and there is still such a stigma around the disorder. My mother was bipolar and ended up committing suicide when I was 11 but she was always off and on her medication.
Since we were never married, I know the father's rights are a little different but I was hoping someone had some advice or have been in a custody battle where the bipolar issue was highlighted, and what was the outcome.
