Jamie:
I have manic-depression, just read where bipolar 2 is mild mania, and depression.
I'm on Lithium, which reduces mania and lifts depression, and an anti-depressant called Mirtazapine.
Just a few weeks ago, because of a new situation in my life, I asked my psy. if I might change from Lithium to another medicine.
I realized when I asked her that, this can go the wrong way. I have experiences with asking a psy. a question, and they give the wrong answer.
So I was uneasy asking that question, and realized my fate hung in the balance for new meds can cause problems, and staying on the old meds can cause problems.
She said, "You've done so well on Lithium for so long, we want to leave you on that." It was a the right answer. Instead, we came up with a way to adjust the time I take part of my Lithium regimen. That was about 3 weeks ago, and I'm still alive to tell about that answer.
So, what you and your psy. decide is very impt. as you know.
I don't know which meds anyone should take. But as I mentioned on another post on a nearby thread, I think you should call your psy's secretary, tell her what shape you're in, and make a case for getting as earlier appt. as you can, rather than waiting till August.
All you'll be doing is changing your medicine, so it's not going to take more than 5 minutes.
