And lately he's been really unmotivated or unambitious. He quit his hamburger job and has no desire to look for something else (partially because my dad enables him) and i don't know how to approach him about
it or get through to him. I feel like when ever i try he feels attacked or just uninterested. He's 22 been diagnosed for 3 years now.

So, he was diagnosed 3 years ago. Do you know if he takes his meds and keeps his P-doc appointments?

Hi machineboy,
Welcome to the Bipolar Forum
Has your brother been using any meds and attending any therapy for his diagnosis? Both meds and therapy work together to help with the Bipolar.
Do you take care of him? How are you coping with things?

Hi everyone,
sorry to not reply for so long. had to take an emotional break as a lot has happened with me.
My brother and dad live on their own together still. I know my brother has medications and appointments but i also know theres been times where he won't take them for weeks at a time or miss his appointments and my dad never holds him accountable when this happens which i really stressful for me but when i try and say anything about
it to either of them they act like I'm the bad guy and it usually turns into a really big fight. my T says i should stay away for now and focus on being okay myself. but its hard on me to do that.
i have an MJ prescript
ion aside from hobbies and my job which help keep me busy and take my mind off things.
thank you for listening and sorry it took so long to respond. its hard for me

It's good that you are looking out after your younger brother.
I'm trying to help someone who is having a lot of emotional/physical problems, and trying to get them to their appointments, but their roommate is not helping and seems to be pulling against that.
That individual probably has more influence on that other person than I do, so it can be a helpless feeling.
I'm also bipolar, as if your brother, so I know the importance of keeping appointments, and taking the meds (for me, it's Lithium mood stabilizer for the mania, and Mirtazapine for the depression).
At his 22, it will be tougher to keep him on his meds, for he will want to go out and party with his friends, and alcohol and medicines don't go good together.
He could be getting into a lot of trouble in the next 5 years or more. But you can keep tabs on him and remind him of his meds and appointments.
He needs somebody steady like that in his life, and nobody else is going to do that on a continuing basis.
What are you in therapy for? It's good that you have a job. What are your hobbies?

machineboy, we are here for you.
Your brother is lucky to have you. You are a wonderful person for looking out for him and taking care of him. Don't think you are the bad guy even if they make you feel like this. I am sorry he does not take his medications always. He must be willing to receive the help.
This can be a lot to handle. I agree that you should take some time for yourself.
