ive just getting out of hospital latley had stopped taking my meds,taking them now i take lithium 1600mg lamical 400mg daily.my pychatrist has added another med olanzapine not taking it because after reasearching it very risky

side effects are terrible weight gain a condition called tardive dyskinsesia plus loads of other side effects,there never told me any of that.also itis used for  schizophrenia and bipolar 1 manic episodes no mention anywhere for bipolar 2.its taken months for me to geta new med and it is no good,i am very angy there are not botherd i wish there could feel what i am going th

rough,the little bit of hope i had is now even less.

I just did a web search on this gaz, and the trade name is zyprexa at least here in the states. It's an anti-psychotic that is used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar, but also mood disorders that do not resopnd to traditional treatment. (If I read the article right.)
I know the side effects sound scary, but they're really quite rare. I too am on an AP and so far have had no problems at all. Tardive Dyskinsesia is not that common and with most of the new drugs it is even more uncommon.
If you truly believe you've been prescribed this in error, seek a second opinion. I don't think it's in your best interests to just decide not to take it. Find another doctor before you make a decision. Keep an open mind. This could finally be the med. that will work for you.

Hey gaz,  I have to agree with Ellie here.  Zyprexa is the generic name for Olanzapine and it has been out on the market for quite some time now.  I have seen it prescribed many times for people with bipolar disorder I & II and work successfully.  However, if you are apprehensive about taking the medication you really should speak to your doctor about your concerns.
