New to this board my brother is not well

   After reading this board I think by brother is bi-polar. He is not well right now very aggressive verbally abusive to his wife. She called us last night saying she was scared.

 They live  almost 2k miles away and my heart breaks to know she is alone fighting this. I did a search on the net and found a clinic not far from her. She only speaks spanish well . This clinic is dedicated to the latin community in the Dallas area. He refuses to talk to her about it and shuts down. Wont bath, watches religious shows all day preaches the bible but lives the opposite.Everyday  he wants to buy some thing major like one day he wants a pool table, next day a new car and he cant drive (vision). They dont have the money for these items so he gets mad that she wont buy them for him.

 He was just approved dissability cause he is lossing his vision to Retinitis Pigmentosa. He has been manic since I can remember around after he turned 19 or so. He is 47 and has had cycles that never lasted more than a 2 weeks now this one has been about 2 months.

 I told me SIL that if he wont go on his own that maybe she can get a judge to make him go since she is scared of him. Is that correct can she get a judge to help her make him get treatment.

Sounds like his disease has progressed.  It gets worse if left untreated.  I only wish that someone could have recognized that my husband needed help years ago, before I met him.

She does need as "escape plan" should he turn violent or long before he turns violent.  My husband had to get help since he had what I'll call a complete breakdown. He wouldn't listen to me as the disease was becoming worse and worse.  I was the only person who was around him enough to see what was really happening to his mind.

My heart goes out to the wife.  She is not alone, sadly.  Good luck.
