can a 17 year old get breast cancer??

I found a hard lump in my right breast about a little over a month ago that has grown over that time into about the size of two golf balls put together. Then I found about 3-4 weeks ago another one in my left breast about the size of one golf ball. The right one use to be very tender to the touch but now it is not at all. They are both "moble" and solid. I have had some lactation due to elavated prolactin levels because one of my medications I'm on, and I don't know if that may play a role towards the lumps???? My nipples sometimes burn and are very sensative to the touch of my shirt. I recently had an ultrasound at Children's Hospital Boston, MA, but nothing was found. I'm really nervous. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I am from a different forum, but your question caught my attention. Yes a 17 year old can, but it is highly, highly unlikely that you have cancer. Much more probable that you have a clogged milk duct or maybe a cyst. If I was in your situation I would go to the doc about it, just to rule out anything hinky going on.

Get to a doctor and have it checked out. 17 year old ladies can get breast cancer, as MMMNAVY mentioned it is unlikely, but something is going on and you need a doctor's check up. See your gyn or go to a breast specialist in your area. Good luck and let us know what is happening.

Hello there,

I am too 17 years of age but this time I am very scared because, breast cancer is in my family and mainly all the females have had it. When it comes to checking for lumps i dont actually know what i'm looking for. I want to be safe than sorry and would like to go to a breast screening. But my mum had said that they won't take me seriously and there nothing to worry about. But my mum is just trying to make me feel better. Sometimes when I'm checking for lumps I think I do have one but I don't know if that part of my breast or not please help!!

Although it is incredibly (and I mean incredibly) rare, 17 year olds can get breast cancer. Honestly, it's natural to be afraid of it. I'm turning eighteen in two months and I've already had two lumpectomies, and a core sample operation due to breast tumors. The two tumors I had were fibroadinomas, which is a fancy way of saying that they weren't cancerous. They were just where random cells decided to get together where they shouldn't. The only reason I even bothered to get them out (because normally they don't hurt anything), is that they were growing. If they are growing or even if you have the sneaking suspicion that it's something worth checking out, GET IT LOOKED AT. I went to two doctors who told me that they were "probably just cyst" "especially at my age". But I knew that something was up, so I got it looked at further. Just remember to keep your head about you as you get yourself checked out. And remember that you know your body better than anyone.

What medications are you on that cause you to have elevated prolactin levels? This may be the cause of the problem. Go back to your doctor and find out what is going on. Very unlikely to be cancer, but it is not impossible. With elevated prolactin levels, it is not uncommon for nipples to be very sensitive.

Go back to your doctor!
