Thank you guys so much for the emails.  They made my day. I've heard the same things from some of my other friends who are trying to reassure me.  It is around 3:30 am central time on Wednesday morning and I've been awake since Monday around noon.  Is this normal?  I went to the doc on Monday and she's sending me to a surgeon.  My mammo is Tuesday the 14th and surgeon is thurs. 16th, that's next week.  I'm relieved I don't have to wait weeks! Anyway, thanks again for you guys.

Tamaralynn: Good morning.  Yes, for some, it is very normal to be restless and unable to sleep.  But you really need to get some rest.  The next few days are going to be tiring and full of information that you need to think about.  Try to relax yourself.  Take a soothing bath, read, drink herbal teas that will relax you.  Research and study so that your fears are somewhat eliminated.  Learn about what you will be going through in the days to come.  We will be with you waiting.  You are in my prayers. I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to respond to your previous e-mail. I'm so glad that you're getting this done in a timely manner. Most of us have been through this in one form or another. We will try to answer any questions and give you whatever comfort you need.

How about trying some Tylenol PM? I used those through my treatment as some of the drugs they prescribe made me hyper. It really worked, and you don't need a prescription. Or a Benadryl capsule may do the same without taking Tylenol. Benadryl is the active ingredient in Tylenol PM.

And if you really can't sleep, get your doc to rx you some Ambien. It's gentle and effective.

I used Benadryl to help me sleep during those early days, when I was too anxious and scared. I then started with ambien during chemo, as Rita mentioned, chemo can mess up the sleep schedule.

Yes I remember my first encounter with a lump in my breast very well. I was 29. I had been dieting and had lost weight, that is probably why I found it so easily. Well, let me tell you, after I found it I could not eat, could not sleep, I was petrified....... I didn't have many pictures taken at the time but there is one that makes me look likea sick Twiggy and anyone who has met me knows, Twiggy I am not............... You are normal in being frightened, but believe me once you know something you will work out the details if it is cancer and will be more at peace. And if it is benign, you will sigh one big sigh of relief and go on with your life. My first one was benign and I never worried again until about 20 years later when my first real mammo showed something. That was biopsied and again benign. I was so lucky with the first two, I didn't bat an eye when I was diagnosed at 58. Hope you are so lucky, too. Hugs MK
