I saw your post regarding the new node procedure, sounds like you were one they wrote about! Hooray!  I went to the U for my 2nd opinion, was diagnosed at Providence. I stuck with the U because they were in agreement for a sentinel node biopsy, which was too new back then, and Providence was not in favor of it for me. I am actually going there next Tuesday for my check with my oncologist.  My surgeon left there last fall. All my mammos and stuff are done there too.

There is another gal on the board from the area too. I'm in Oakland county, where are you?

Tavish, I am in Belleville, MI. Did you have a mas or lump, recons. If recons can you recom a PS. Thanks.

LOL....Tavish is my dog's name, I am really Lori.

I had a lumpectomy, 2.5 cm tumor. I never considered a mast because all doctors that I saw said I had a choice, based on the path report. It is a very individual decision.

I saw a surgeon, onc and rad onc at Providence in Southfield, then went to U of M for my 2nd opinion. I kept the new onc and surgeon, kept the old rad onc. I live 50 minutes from the U, and did not want to commute for radiation. I never saw a PS, sorry, can't help you there. Did you see one at U of M in their clinic?

Yes I had a consult with a PS at the U. He discussed the TRAM and implants, but I have done some research on the DIEP FLAP and am most interested in this option.
Dr. N say I may not be a candidate for immediate reconstruction if I need radiation, cause of increased risk of complications. I am sad (mentally overwhelmed) with the idea of not having immediate recons and having radiation that will damage my breast tissue and the risk of not having an good cosmetic results. I am most concerned with living a long life, but how I will "look" is pressing on my mind as well. Is this shallow? I will have to wait for the results of the biopsy. Hope they are in tomorrow.

No, it is not shallow. THis is so common, I think, for those facing BC. Besides the threat of mortality, we face body image and cosmetic issues. Not to say what is most important, but try to gather as much as you can (sounds like you are) and weigh the pros and cons of each. Ask around, too...others might have more insight.
