Dear Tufcookie,
I was diagnosed with IBC in 2005 and then had a reccurrence in 2011.
Almost immediately after I divorced my husband of 22.5 years I started having severe pain in my left breast. The pains were so sharp that I would cry out. Oddly, I usually was in bed when I felt them. My IBC was estrogen receptor positive so I know that a certain drug caused mine but stress, I think, was like throwing a hot iron in the fire.
These pains started about 6 yrs. before my diagnosis. Mammograms hurt me so much that I would cry and almost beg them to stop pressing down so hard. For four years I quit having them (big mistake)!
Ironically, the pains stopped for several years prior to my noticing that I had a sick breast. It was hot to the touch and had the appearance of an orange peel except it was red and not orange. It felt feverish. I had helped my brother keep his big riding mower from falling back off his truck until he could finish loading it. It pressing so hard and straining, I got a very bad bruise and my left breast was very sore the next morning. Helping my brother saved my life because I went straight to get a mammogram and then was sent to my gyn doctor and she sent me immediately to a breast surgeon. I had a great team of doctors. It takes a team when it comes to saving us from this disease.
Please take any breast pain serious.
I sincerely hope that you don't have breast cancer but please keep trying to find out!
