And also, I do not think the type of surgery will preclude the need for chemo. It is not usally offered as a choice...mast or chemo. However, in some cases, a mast will replace the need for radiation treatment. Remembering that your path report was very similar to mine, I would speculate that you will need some kind of chemo. Treating breast cancer seems to be a 3 prong approach, requiring skill from a surgeon, oncologist and radiation oncologist. Tumor size and grade will be big predictors of needing chemo.

In my case, I met with all 3 docs up front. Luckily they all concurred with what was best for me...so I had the onc and rad onc lined up in order, to see me and treat me at the appropriate time.

Being her2+ may also mean they put you on Herceptin. Lauri posted an article recently that supports the use of herceptin in earlier cases now instead of just late stage.

Chemo is not what it looks like on TV, it is very doable. We'll help you thru it...

It differs depending on many factors -- agressiveness being a big one. I had a mastectomy and still did both chemo & radiation. Your oncologist should be the one to let you know what you should do.
