Biopsy Anxiety--How to Deal with It?

I had a biopsy done two months back. You get the results (or you should) within two to three days. I really just tried not to get too worried about it until I knew it was something bad. My maternal Grandmother had breast cancer so the thought that I may one day get it is always in the back of my mind. My boys ages 17 and 20 were told what was going on but I said don't worry until there is something to worry about. It turned out to be nothing to worry about but we do have to watch it in case it grows because then it will need to be removed.

Happy New Year! I had my biopsy done on Tuesday! Although the procedure took a bit longer, it was done and it was uncomfortable but uneventful. My results came back benign! I will do some follow up 're a possible papilloma which may have been removed during my biopsy. Honestly, the waiting was the worst part! I hope that you enjoyed your holidays & want to tell you what a special person you are to have kept me-- a stranger-- in your thoughts! it is wonderful to know that there are people like you and the other women here who support & encourage one another! Hi. New to this forum. Vita my heart is w/you. In Oct. of 08 I found a weird "thing" in my breast. Not a lump, some longish-type thing. From my GP then to a surgeon & plastic surgeon it took 3 months. Finally I had a double mastectomy w/implants 8 days before Christmas. My husband & I were so ignorant. I was sort of shocked since the surgeon assured me that the chances of cancer were infantesimal (sp). I just did what I was told. Reading, questioning, etc is your first & utmost line of defence. I wish to God I had just looked up or questioned anything. My prayers are w/you. What happened to me, (one error after another on Dr's part) and I'm sure others have experienced some or what I did I wouldn't wish any of it on my worst enemy. Bad enough to get cancer, but being ignorant just adds to an already bad situation. Take care & good luck.

I had a mammo on 1/25/13, been told I have micrcalcifications on left breast. He ordered a biopsy for 2/6/13. I am crazy with worry

Thank you Vita, I am glad that you are ok :). Today I will be busy, (found out about my thyroid being abnormal too) going to my general doctor for synthroid medications, I will ask her for xanax or valium. Life is a rollercoaster, one day your up and one day your down....but I am going to try to stay positive. If I do have breast cancer, the survival rate for early stage is over 95%, with many years to live. Grateful to have many supporters in this forum :)

Hi ladies i am new in the cancer forum i am in the anxiety forum as i suffer from anxiety but i had breast cancer 9 years ago and have going along great until tuesday i had my regular mammogram and ultra sound and he found a very small lump that he could not say 100% that it was nothing and in the same breast that i had the dancer in so he done the biopsy then and there which was good as i hate the waiting but i had to wait till friday for results and yes it was cancer the plus side the amazing doctor managed to clear it with the biopsy and it was quite small.
So now i have to go and have the chest X-ray , liver and spleen ultrasound,and the full body bone scan im so scared i dont want to go through this again even though in my heart i feel positive that all is ok and i won't die from cancer.
At the moment my biggest fear is having the radiation injection before the bone scan because of my anxiety i have a huge fear of taking any medications even a vitamin pill as i had bad side effects from zoloft years ago and ended up in hospital i know it wont hurt me but im so scared the last time i had the bone scan i didnt have the injection cause i freaked out but they say i have to have it so they can see properly.
Im so tired i had hardly any sleep through worry and anxiety i just want this all over and everthing to be ok i could handle this so much better if i didnt have the anxiety fighting off panic attacks on top of the normal anxiety is horrible.

Dear Netbell, good luck with your procedures. I am the same way about medications. I had horrible reactions to antidepressants, antiemetics (antivomiting drugs) too and also had to go the hospital because of it. Hopefully your doctor and the tech will explain the procedures well...but I know they don't always. I think the biggest problem I have heard of with contrasts and radioactive dyes is allergies related to dyes and substances like iodine-which would relate to shellfish allergy also. I had some contrast for my thyroid function which they injected. Luckily the tech explained a wierd thing that happens to most people during it...I know a lady who had a panic attack when it happened to her because she didn't know to expect it. When they inject the dye, I got an amazingly strong hotflash feeling and felt like all the blood rushed to my head, a wierd taste and smell and sensation in my nose (like from eating horseradish or chinese hot mustard) almost instantly when they were injecting it, then I felt like I was urinating all over myself...but I wasn't. Apparently, that is normal. Possibly the strangest thing I have ever felt in my life, very uncomfortable, but not harmful if you know it's coming and that it goes away by the end of the procedure, without consequences.   Everything was fine and I didn't have any abnormal reaction...Definitely let them know what your allergies are though, and reactions you had in the past to meds though.
