hello-

i found this site by searching the net regarding symptoms, findings/examinations, procedures, treatment, et cetera of breast cancer.... one week ago i found a small hard lump in my right breast upper inner quadrant... there is a history of breast & ovarian cancer in my family...

my situation at present: i am 41 years of age, single, never married, no children, and basically alone in a new state... my breasts are dense, i am thin, and small chested- not easy to read mammos...

really, all i've been trying to do is to go on to the next step (after dealing with the death of my 2 senior dogs, and my biological mother- the reason i moved to ohio- stealing/forging my checks, and being abusive & violent towards me once i moved here)... thought i was after one year, able to breathe... coming somewhat back to life... then i found that lump...

today, my new ob/gyn doctor in ohio, made the following comments: *it's small, HARD, & movable... but i don't like it... you caught it early, a good find- and if it's malignant (god forbid), we'll treat this aggressively due to your age and family history...*

i'm having a mammo tomorrow morning (already pre.registered)... then if necessary, the ultrasound, then a biopsy (my insurance only goes this route)...   i sort of have been having a strange *catching* sensation- after i eat, or if i take a deep breath... no matter what is determined here, our bodies do inform of foreign invasion!

i appreciate any feedback, suggestions, experiences, et cetera-- i'm worrying in advance, i do realise...

Hi, Star. Boy did you ever luck out and find the right place so soon in this "journey". There are many women here who have had this exact experience and all will tell you that 80% of all lumps are b9, but of course, that's not helping you right now. Just settle down, sit back, take deep breaths and relax as best you can. That "catching" is probably not anything, just an indication of nerves. It sounds like you have a great doc and it is important that you are having the mammo so soon and you should insist that you get the other tests soon if they are indicated. It is unfortunate that you have no one close to you in your new city, but you'll have lots of support here. Others will be answering soon with tips and advice so stay close until you finish this early process. Praying for b9 results for you.

Hi, Star. Juju is what my young nieces call me, and yes, the road has been long, but there are many here who have been through much more and are still here to talk about it. I'm hoping the best for you, that you don't have to join the club that no one really wants to join. Tomorrow you'll find out more, so don't forget to post about your visit.

Hi Star! Welcome. We have many in our group from Ohio. Where are you located? I like the fact that your insurance company will only do biopsies. That is the best way to find out for sure what you are dealing with. I am 9 1/2 years from my diagnosis and doing fine, my daughter is seven years from hers. There are several women here who have been around longer than that. So breast cancer is not always as bad as you imagine. Early diagnosis and good treatment make a big difference. Let us know what you find out today, if anything. Sometimes results take a little longer, but we are here to talk to. Hugs, Mary K MK for short

Hi and welcome! I'm your neighbor to the north, in SE MIchigan.  Sorry you are going through this right now, it is a scary time, for sure.

They cannot tell anything without seeing it....touch is not much to go on in this business. My docs all said "well it is round and moveable, a good sign". Others will tell you that pain does or does not mean it is cancer. No set rules. They can generalize and say that it has less chance of being cancer if it is round and smooth, but until they look at the cells, no one can know for sure. Not to scare you, but just to drive the point that they can like or not like what they feel, but it does not mean much.

And all the what ifs can be a bear,....try not to let them get away with you. I hate it when docs say "we're going to treat it aggressively"...try not to let that scare you.  Treatments are doable today...when they told me I needed chemo I suggested they kill me instead, thinking I could not withstand chemo...and I ended up working throughout, with minimal side effects. We've all been in your shoes and will help you each step of the way....hang in there and be your own best advocate!

Hello and welcome!!  I live in Ohio too.  In August I will become a three year survivor.  I am glad you found this board.  The women here are wonderful and we will support you as much as you want.  Please keep us informed and remember 80% of lumps found are B-9.  Try to stay calm and do as much research as you can right now.  Knowledge is a powerful thing and as Lori stated YOU are YOUR best advocate.

Welcome Star. I just read your post and am sending possitve thoughts out for your tests today. I hope they went well. Please let us know how they turn out, and hang in there sweetie, there is a lot of support and friends here. You may find one of them live near you, it is a small world! I live in Washington State, so I am not real close, but the internet "knows no boundries", LOL. Sending {{{{{hugs}}}}} to you. Gail

I agree that you lucked out to find this site early.  I am going to be 41 on Sunday, and am about two years past diagnosis now.  I really feel for you.  Please know that you're not alone anymore.  I hope you have access to some support groups.  I wasn't a "joiner" but went to a dinner for the local support group for cancer survivors and a gathering of women on this board and was greatly impressed with the life force at the events I have attended.  Maybe it will be a good source for you.

 

Information is here in abundance, as is support.  Please know we are with you.  By now you have been through the mammo, and may know something.  I hope you get to hear b9, but if not, we're here and waiting to help out.

Welcome to the board. There are lots of nice women here with lots of different experiences. I hope that your lump is b9 and you will sail thru all this with flying colors.

What ever this is you need to have it removed by a biopsy procedure. It is the ONLY way to know for sure what you are dealing with. I had a hard, 6 mm lump (about 1/4") removed 10 years ago. And, yes it was cancer. But, it has been 10 years. Good luck. You've had your mammogram by now, any news? Lauri

You are certainly not alone in Ohio. For whatever reasons, the Buckeye State has a large share of board members. In fact, if you are near the Cincinnati, Cleveland or Columbus area you will be overwhelmed with the number of BC support groups. Let us know how things are going for you. We'll be pulling for you!
