Follow up on lumpectomy...

Hi there...today I went and got the good news that the cysts, the fibroid and the mass he removed are all benign.  There was one worry for me tho...he wants to see me in 6 months for a follow up....he didn't do a follow up after the last lumpectomy, and there was something else on the diagnosis sheet pertaining to the mass... hyperplasia...which I don't know anything about, except they are cells that grew there and are out of the ordinary..but am too afraid to look up at this point, so any thoughts or knowledge on that would be GREATLY appreciated...as far as the incision..it is still painful, but we took the tape off today and there are 2 incisions...healing well and not too big..Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and for making this ordeal alot less nervewracking.  Linda

Congratulations on a benign report! FYI, the presence of "atypical hyperplasia" is exactly what you said: an abnormal increase in the number of normal cells. This is sometimes used as an indication that you may be at a slightly higher risk than usual to develop a cancer (remember I said slight!) and that is why the recommended follow-up.  Just make sure you follow your doctor's recommendations for future visits and mammos. i...it's me again..lol...soooo I'm explaining all this to my husband, and I'm having some pain in my left breast now and there is something that feels like another fibroid...I would think they would have found that during the mammogram or the surgeon or my gyn would have brought it up...but now my husband is insisting that we go and sit and talk about this with my gyn tomorrow and possibly have the lump on the other side checked out.  I don't want to keep bothering the dr. and my husband has never reacted about any of this in this way, he's been very laid back through my hysterectomy and the last lumpectomy but this time he's very concerned.  I don't know if the lump is there because I have worn a REALLLLY tight bra since my surgery or what, but he is getting angry about my taking it so lightly and that I'm acting as though I'm pestering the dr. but I'm afraid that if I keep bothering the dr. about all this that he won't take this seriously. Thank you all for your kind words and please don't think I'm a hypocondriact....lol....I just need advice from people that have been there that I can trust.  You have been great!!
