She has Mets that have gone to the bones.  Our brave sister must be truly scared and is very brave to move forward  for her country and her man.  Way to go Elizabeth!  He's still running and she's behind him.  Such strength!!!

Everytime I see her on TV or read about her on the net or in the paper, I think of my daughter and that they are in the same boat. The statistics they quoted on the news the other night really bothered me, too. We talked about EE a day or two ago, you might want to find that thread and read. Hugs MK

I went on the web and looked her up too she has lost alot of weight but still looks great. I love their attitude that they will just continue their lives like they were. I think that is the best thing you can do, is to just keep busy and not let it get the best of you. I was surprised about the statistics too but MK just look at all of the women here that have had mets and are doing great. I was amazed when she said that she is 57 years old I did not realize that she was up there. They had started their family and then lost their sona nd stared another family Im amazed that she can keep up with the little ones. I will definatly keep them in my prayers, and your daughter MK.

Between her recurrence and Tony Snow's recurrence, it makes me worry that cancer could be still growing somewhere inside me.  Is that unreasonable?  I mean - Tony Snow said his blood work and scans were negative and then, boom, surgery reveals mets.  Now with my BIL, too, I am uncharacteristically scared.  BTW, my BIL has stage 4 inoperable, so I am scared for him, too.  I guess with all this happening at once, it has freaked me out a bit.  But, logic will prevail.

Freaked here, too. I believe this is just part of it. I have arranged all my dr appointments so that I see someone every three months. It has helped alleviate some of these fears. Will have a medical check up in April.

Hi Ladies,Last night on the news,Dr.Susan Love said everyone with Breast cancer will eventually Die from it.This really made me scared so we need to just put our trust in God and know that he will take care of us. We are a bunch of fighters on here so it will take more than Breast Cancer to get the best of us!!   Tammy

Know what?  The psychological ramifications of that statement coming from Dr. Love makes me regret that I have been recommending her book to others.  The last thing I want to hear is that I will eventually die from breast cancer.  I am living my life like a normal, cancer-free woman for the most part, since my lumpectomy and treatment and that gives me a sentence I do not accept.  Hope helped me get through my cancer journey and my life journey in general and her statement can easily serve to erode hope.  I'm sure her motivation wasn't to do this, but she has a responsibility as an expert in the breast cancer field.  She should be aware of the psychological ramifications of such a statement.  I think it did more harm than good, and it's a darn good thing I didn't see that news program.  They'd and she'd be hearing from me!

 

Optimists have it easier, studies have shown this in many areas.  Pessimism isn't healthy.

Ellen, I think Dr. Love was misquoted. I didn't hear that broadcast, but have heard other doctors that refer to metastatic breast cancer as incurable, but controlable for a long time. The longer we can control it, the greater the chance of finding a cure before it is too late. My sister has mets to the lung and is responding well to Taxitere. But we know all too well, it is not a cure. I hope that Mrs. Edwards finds the magic potion that will work for her! FK

DR. Susan Love was on Fox 40 news and what she said was very upsetting.Im sorry,I shouldnt have repeated what she said.We were talking about Elizabeth Edwards and i just thought about what DR. Love said on the news when she was answering questions about MRS. Edwards

I wish she would of never said it.I was wishing that i had her email address at the time so i could let her know how i felt about it.  Tammy

I found the news cast online and I listened better to what she said.What she said was someone with Breast Cancer Matastisis eventually dies from it.Im so sorry for even posting on this.Please forgive me.I am a survivor also and hearing this is upsetting.  Im very sorry.   Tammy

Tammy, thanks for clearing that up. It sounds like it will give you better peace of mind too. While I do think her book is fantastic and I found the information to be invaluable when I went through my diagnosis and treatment. I did find some things that were not true (like the pattern of tattoos that I would get). But one thing I did learn from that is to take it all at face value and do my own research to validate some things that I might hear that I don't understand or like.

And I do believe that while mets us viewed typically as incurable but treatable, I think there are a percentage of people that do not fit that statistic too,...some people do beat the odds. Look at Lance Armstrong who's cancer had spread to his brain and lungs and he is still cancer free. And look at our own Deb, who is about 20 years post mets diagnosis, and has been cancer free for most of those years too.

I don't know much more to add, except don't worry and don't freak out until you know you have something to be freaking out about. Even with a recurrence you can keep fighting and live as long as the good Lord plans for you to live. My mother keeps telling me she has lived too long, she will be 94 next month and is in reasonally good physical health, the mental health is slowly erroding. But even she knows that she will live until it is "her time" to go and there is nothing she can do about that. Those of us who have disease and health problems to face know we won't live to 94, but we will live life to the fullest until our time comes, too. I just hope and pray that the quality of that life is comfortable as possible. Hugs and prayers for all, MK
