 Yes, I want to shout it from the rooftops!!!! It was 12 years ago today that I heard those fateful words, "It's cancer." What a journey it has been. I can't believe it has really been that long. Many of you were there when I showed up at iVillage in March of 2000 after a mammogram showed microcalcifcations under my lumpectomy incision and a surgeon was sure the cancer was back. But, two biopsies failed to find anything that should not be there. Jo-Ann, MK, Annette, Lori, Bev, Glenda,  Luci, Jackie, and so many others -- we've become such good friends over the years celebrating the good times, supporting each other through challenges and mourning together as we have lost dear ones.

In the past 12 years, I worked, quit working, saw DD graduated from college, helped her when she moved away, cried when she got married, and celebrated when she gave me grandchildren, DH even retired. Despite cancer I have had some grand moments in life. I guess what I want the newbies to take away from my experience is this -- there is life after cancer and it can be full, rich and rewarding. Hang in there, ladies. You will get through this, too. We are a special class of warrior women! We are survivors!

AMEN!!!! You have such a gift for words. Congratulations on the 12 years and I wish you many, many more. Retirement and grandchildren are the greatest!!!

Hipp Hipp Hooray! Great news, shout it from the rooftops and the streets and the trees...definitely worth sharing and we're so glad to celebrate with you, Lauri! Ha...in March 2000, I was getting chemo #2 & 3. In fact, I think April 11, 2000 was my last chemo. I should remember that day too!

You've had some fine moments in the last 12 years...see ya in the next 12 and all the years along the way.

And another great reason to celebrate today.  I was glad that this is the last Saturday that I will be working until next tax season but I like your reason better.  There have been a lot of tales this last 12 years (8 years, 4 months for me).  Some good, some not so good but I am thankful that I have been able to meet all of you here in these pages on the web.  I still have the paper from our first gathering here in Cincinnati.  My gosh, Jordan was a baby then and now she is 8 going on 28.

Congrats, Lauri. It's always so rewarding to celebrate those anniversaries, and I think those "grand moments" are all the grander to us, knowing we have beaten back cancer long enough to experience graduations, marriages, births, retirements, and even, with poignancy, deaths.

One of my hardest days during treatment was when my older daughter graduated 8th grade. All I could think about was, would I be here next year for the next one's graduation? And if I was, odds were against me seeing high school graduations. It was a very private pity party. I haven't told anyone but you guys about it! LOL

My youngest graduates college MAY 10!!! And then she's taking my GD and heading to North Carolina for grad school. Another of those poignant moments, but I will be reminding myself just how lucky I am to have had 6 years of that little wild child being so close to her Dobbee. How lucky I have been to have lived long enough to have watched her birth, her first steps and first words and first lost tooth. I think I will have to keep the roads hot between here and North Carolina, at least for awhile.

But I digress, as I always do. Congrats on the milestone...and may you have many more!

Congratulations!  That is so true what you said.  There IS life after cancer.  We are all proof of that.  It is great to look back and see what wonderful things have happened in our lives.

 

BTW - DH and I will be transitting Minneapolis this Friday on our way to Ohio for a visit.  We will return on Tuesday.  I'll give a shout out to you!  LOL  It's too bad we never met up with each other almost 3 years ago(I can't believe it's been that long).

A most warm welcome to the 12-year club. I can remember so far back, even to the first time we met. You have had some wonderful times during those years, the visits to so many state capitols making me soooooo jealous.

I wish you the most wonderful next 12 years and many beyond. God's blessings upon you for all you have gone through. When all of us were starting our journeys, at different times, I used to post that we're all heading down the same road, not of our own choosing, but we would all stop and wait for those having a little trouble keeping up.

Well, today you are the leader. Your message is an inspiration to those that are still a little slower on that path. We should all rest today and wait with you.

I know that I am late in the congrats, but please know that I am so happy for you celebrating yet another year of survivalship.  Giving you a special (((((((((((((((((LAURI))))))))))))))).

Hope that you celebrated in style..............you are one in a million.

Happy anniversary to you, too, Debbie, even if I am late. :-) 23 years is simply remarkable. What a great example you are for everyone who has been diagnosed with a recurrance. This is a fight that can be won. Thanks for your good wishes. I miss everyone, too. It's been way too long since we've been together. My DGD was less than a year old when we were in Louisville.
