triple negative/negative nodes

Hi Everyone, sad to say I'm new to the board. Diagnosed this month with BC for the 2nd time. The first time I was stage 0, had a lumpectomy and 35 rounds of radiation. Thought I was home free. Went for regular check up and did everything I was told.

At my 1 yr oncology ck up he felt a lump...fast forward I have a 3 cm Invasive ductal tumor. I just found out my nodes are negative, hooray! I had another biopsy today under MRI checking for a 2nd primary.

I start chemo on tues the 24th, my 30th wedding anniversary! After that surgery, and more chemo, possibly radiation.

QUESTION:I read the triple negative cancer in very serious, they are being much more aggresive this time, but my doctors tell me it is CURABLE. Any other triple negatives out there? And since my nodes are negative does that mean my chances for mets later in life are less?

Welcome and sorry....bout #2, ugh. WHo needs it.
My tumor was ER/PR+ so I don't know as much about the triple negative....the thing is, all of BC is serious. There is no way to tell if yours will be worse than mine or give you greater or lesser chance of mets. The doctors will do their best to give you stats and put it all into a neat package of statistics to try and help suggest what may happen, but truth is, you are just you, not a statistic.

That being said...I know women who had very early stages of cancer and have since passed on, while others amazingly have defied the odds and remained cancer free for years and years. So in all likelihood, negative nodes will give you a better chance to remain free of mets, but there are no guarantees. Node negative is important. As for hormone or her2 negative, well there are lots of stats and we just don't know where you'll fall in that range...

So...plan on living a long full and cancer free life and stick around...let us know how you're doing and if we can help!

CVs, Lori gave you the best answer anyone could. The truth is no one knows the real answers, even the best doctors. My daughter and I both had breast cancer within two years of one another, I was first. We both had negative nodes and seemed to be doing great, but at eight years she found a lump in her neck. Her breast cancer has spread to her bone marrow which is not a good prognosis, but she still seems to be living a normal life except for being very tired and having some side effects from the oral chemo she is on. She is amazing to all of us in the family. Meanwhile I am cancer free with other issues of old age and compromised immune system.

I guess the best advice is to carry on the best you can stay as upbeat and positive as you can. If you feel depression coming on, get some medication. Many of us take antidepressants in varying strengths to help us along.

And as Lori says plan on living a long full and cancer free life.

Thank you both for you response. That's the plan, to live a long happy life. I am going with my daughter today to get my hair cut short and get some hats and scarfs.

Starting chemo on tues, doc says I'll be bald in about 10 days, so I thought I'd get ready!
