Hey everyone, I am just trying to understand what my BFF is going threw, She has had her second round of chimo and is having a bad time with it. She has IFB . The first round she had a hard time with the shot they gave her afterwards for the white blood cells, It knocked her right out.  This time they did not give the shot and now her blood count is so bad that no one is allowed to go to her home. She has not had surgery yet they are working with the chimo first. Can someone please explain to me how this works so I can understand and try to help her out. The other night she was so sick she could not get warm her grown son got in bed with her to try to keep her warm. I know everyone responds to this differently. What can I do to help her out? I made her very fresh homemade veggie beef soup she likes it even the broth is great if I may say so myself she did not even want it. Do not get me wrong my feelings are not hurt at all. I put it in the freezer for when she is ready for it.

 

 

  I will take any advice.........

Each person responds to chemo in very different ways. I too had the shot to help with the blood count too and the first time I had it I was sick for a week. I then found out that it was the combo of the 3 chemo drugs they used and then the shot on top of it that made me sick. I had the shot many times after that with much better results.

As far as helping her, talk to her as much as you can help out around her house when she is able to have people in again. The hardest part for me with chemo was the lack of energy and body aches. How many rounds of chemo does she have planned? and how far apart? That will make a difference too.

My best advice is to be her friend, do as much as she will let you but most of all be there for her to talk to. I have to say that it was harder on those around me to have to watch what I was going thru and not know what to do, or how to help.

Thank you for the reply. I spoke to her husband today and she is on the verge of going to the hospital. The Dr is not happy with the white blood cell count. She is not allowd any outside food. I made homemade mac & cheese with ham in it and she can not have it. Everything needs to be cooked in the home now. Nothing with a skin on it. My other firend has cancer and is doing ok I gave her some mac & cheese and made them a toss salad. Even thow I am sick myself with my Lupus and Fibro and in a flair my friends needs my help more.

 

I have let the familys know that I am there if they need help or if the ladies just want to get out(the one that can). 

As you said support is the best. just be there for them.  THANK YOU........
