I'm scaredi'm scared

Hello there, I am too 17 years of age but this time I am very scared because, breast cancer is in my family and mainly all the females have had it. When it comes to checking for lumps i dont actually know what i'm looking for. I want to be safe than sorry and would like to go to a breast screening. But my mum had said that they won't take me seriously and there nothing to worry about. But my mum is just trying to make me feel better. Sometimes when I'm checking for lumps I think I do have one but I don't know if that part of my breast or not please help!! cheers

Mk is right. Tell your Mum that with your family history of breast cancer, you would feel a lot better if a doctor showed you how to examine your breasts so you can learn what is normal for you, and what is not. They quite often don't start regular mammograms until a woman is 40... until then, you need to know what you are feeling when you do an exam. Most of the women here who had breast cancer before age 40 found their cancerous lumps on their own. (I'm one of them!) This is important! So don't let your mum discourage you.
