Thank you ladies

Thank you all for your words of encouragement the other day when I was having a meltdown. I'm much better now. I finally have the date of my surgery. January 19 I will have a bilateral mast with lap dorsi flap and tissue expanders. I know I will be somewhat uncomfortable for a while but just having the "plan" gives me something to prepare for. They tell me this is an overnight stay. I have good feelings about that and bad. The good is I won't be away from my kids to long and the bad is I might not be away quite long enough lol. I don't mean that the way it sounds but I have a tendency to overdo and cater to those around me. Anyway thanks again and I will keep you posted.

Great Sherry that you have a plan now. Personally, I do not think 24 hours in a hospital is long enough. It is ridiculous today what they do sending people home way too fast; however, if the doctor decides you need more time he can request time from your insurance company. I never stayed the minimum amount of time. For my mastectomy, only one side, I was in the hospital four days. For my tram flap reconstruction I was there about four days again. My daughter had one mastectomy and reconstruction and she was in two days I believe. So don't be disappointed or feel something is wrong if they decide to keep you an extra day. The reconstruction surgery will need a good time of healing. You know you WILL need help with the house and your kids if they are small, don't you? At least until you are healed pretty well. Back in the old days, this would have been at least ten days in the hospital. I am from the old days. LOL. You will do fine. Should you need some encoouragement and want to hear from someone by phone, I will be glad to call you. I have the one rate telephone deal which I do not use often enough. Just send me an email with your number and I will be happy to check on you and report back to the board until you are on your feet once you have surgery. Sherry, It is always better to be at the point of having a plan.  24 hours is too short.  That is all I had also.  But I had people at home that made me rest and stay off my feet.  Thank goodness, because as soon as they all went back to work I got entirely too active.  You cannot trust me!!! LOL I will have you in my prayers.  Let us know how you are doing as soon as you are up to it. Love and hugs, Candy
