Hi everybody. I had my bil mast with lap dorsi recon Wednesday and I came home Saturday. The pathologist said the sentinel nodes looked good which was wonderful news. Having quite a bit of pain but I am managing it well. Thanks to all of you for your encouragement. I have expanders so me and my lovely drains will be going to Nashville every week for a while. Going to do a round of chemo in about a month. About how long will I have these drains? My family is being wonderful and people have brought more food than we will ever be able to eat but at least I don't have to worry about cooking. More news later...........Sherry

Glad to hear all went well! And excellent news on that sentinel node! I did not have drains, so I cannot help you there...but it sounds like you are managing quite well.

Most are rid of drains in two weeks, mine stayed over six weeks. So it pretty much depends on your body. You sound great for having gone through major surgery less than a week ago. It is wonderful you have such a good food support program, too. It certainly helps when you don't have to worry about what's for dinner. Take it easy now, eat well and rest for healing to take place. Sherry..so glad things are going well for you. The drains are different for each person.

Sherry So glad all went well and you are being cared for. The drains are different for everyone. Mine took 3 weeks, but I did not listen very carefully to the Dr.'s advise. "Keep the arm very quiet and the drains will come out sooner." Good thing all those people are cooking for you. Enjoy it and rest, rest, rest. Hugs, Candy

Congrats on getting thru surgery, and yes the drains are a pain...I had mine (4 of them) about 4 weeks, (one came out sooner, around 3 weeks). One piece of advice...DON'T get them stuck on kitchen drawer knobs!!! They are stitched inside you and it will H-U-R-T if you pull on the drain line. It almost dropped me to my feet more than once. Once you get rid of those you'll feel so much better... rest up and get ready for chemo and enjoy all the dinners being cooked for you.... people are so compassionate!

Glad you are doing well. I, too, had a lot of people bringing food. Aren't friends great? My drains were only in for a week, so I can see that I was the lucky one, based on what others have posted. Once the fluid was at a certain point, the surgeon removed them. I had 2 different surgeries 3 weeks apart with one drain each time.
