Excisional Breast Biopsy

Needle biopsy - Proliferative lesion.  Doctor explained that the lesion has a high probability that is is benign.  Said I could wait a month or so to take it out.  However, I would have to keep checking it and suggested I just get it out now.  It's so stressful having this surgery when I don't quite understand all of this.  I'm an anxious person to begin with and having what is elective, although suggested, surgery is making me doubt the risk vs. benefit.  I don't mean to belittle some of the very serious decisions others are facing in posting, but I don't feel entirely informed.  Thanks.

I agree with Alcie. I would just go ahead and get it out now. Why let it go longer and cause you continued worry? Your birad score indicates that this lesion is probably benign. In the needle biopsy, did they indicate whether there were atypical findings?

Having it out now or having it out a month from now doesn't really sound like "elective," to me. It sounds like your doctor wants you to have it out, but there is no big rush to do it. Having the lump removed and examined by a pathologist is the only way to know for sure what you are dealing with here.

proliferative lesion with aprocrine features, smaller groups of cells displaying dyscohesion reasoning for either core biopsy or excisional biopsy.  I will most likely get it out, although I'm not sure if recommendation is too drastic.

I went through this very tough decision a few years ago. The surgeon basically put it to me this way..... Most of his patients that opt to wait versus just proceeding with the excisional biopsy, are back in his office within 30 days ready to go. Because they find themselves obsessing with checking the spot so often, they end up getting sore or bruised. I went with the excisional biopsy, which was his recommendation.

That way I could move forward, instead of worrying about what it was. I went in and was home in a few hours. Knock on wood, the diagnosis was B9.
