Femara - anyone on it? Been on it?

I haven't been here in a long time. I stopped the Tamoxifen in February and just started generic Femara 2 weeks ago. I didn't have any side effects with the Tamoxifen other than the hair on my legs and armpits would sometimes grow really really slow, other times it grew normally.

Just wondering what other's experience has been.

i have been on Femara for a week today and the muscle pains started 3 days ago.They are manageable while moving but turning over in bed is horrid ..it wakes me up.Apparently this is a fantastic drug for preventing breast cancer cells attacking other parts of the body.I think the femara is reducing the oestrogen and this is causing the pain.So I guess that when the oestrogen levels are reduced the pain might stop.Hot flushes are an indication that oestrogen is in the body.I thought mine had long gone because i went through menopause at 47 and am now 55.I have never been keen to take pain killers stronger than the odd panodol but I am going to now.Must not stop taking the oestrogen blockers as they have been proven to work.
Daily walks, lots of water and pain killers.We have to do it .I remind myself of all the women who have died because they didn't have the drugs we have today.Soldier on for the people who love us.

Some of us have had to stop ALL the aromatase inhibitors and tamoxifen too. The side effects were worse than the benefits. If you have a chance of recurrence you might want to keep on with it no matter what, but with my low oncotype and severe pain, trigger fingers requiring surgery, life was the equivalent of death. I quit.

I had too many problems with Tamofixin so switched to femara(that was when it was fairly new and given to met. disease only). I got along much better with femara. And, 10 years later I'm still NED

My wife is in treatment for her second bout of breast cancer. Her first was in 1996 with a ductile tumor in the right breast and had a lumpectomy, chemo, and radiation. She was put on tamoxifen but couldn't tolerate it, and stopped after a few months.

Last year she dicovered a lobular carcinoma in the same breast. She had a double masectomy, chemo, and radiation. After the radiation she was started on Arimidex, but stopped after one month due to the side effects. She was switched to Femara and is tolerating it very well.

I am on Femara and have been since 2008. At first I had aches in my legs - added a whole new level of panic - and in all honesty I can't remember when it stopped, but it did. I still have some months of more hair loss than others, but in 3 years I really don't see thinning of my hair at all.

Hormone positive breast cancer has its own level of freak out when you realize you're still having a period. I would suggest the instant menopause was worse. I had a complete hysterectomy - uterus, tubes, ovaries and cervix - at 42.

I trust my oncologist and his decision to put me on Femara.
