ARE THERE ANY STAGE 4 SURVIVERS THA CAN HELP ME. JUST DIAGNOSED

Hi, DMO. We've had several Stage 4 survivors. One of our members was dx'ed with mets to the sternum when she was 35... she's 60 now! She's my hero, and I love being able to share her story.

I have been diagnosed with Stage IV since July 2011--breast to two bones--now on tamoxiphen and my marker has been normal since I started the drug in September 2011. I will take this as long as it works for me and then probably oral chemo drug. I am fortunate that I went to the doctor as soon as I lost the 32 pounds but thought it was due to babysitting twin grandbabies and falling in love (LOL)! My onco was proud of me for calling him early on.

I walk and run as much as I can because I think there is a definite link between survival and exercising (not that this will cure me but it might help me live a little longer! Only God knows that!

I hope this has been helpful! I am not a quitter and even though there are days when I am down; the next day I am even more determined to get outdoors and stay busy! tongue

I just read your post. Thank you for the hope. My doc just found 2 bone met. I didnt expect this . i am scared and i am looking for stories of survival and hope. Thank you Wendi

Wendi, I just saw this and wanted to respond immediately! There is always hope. If your doctor gives you a drug to take then for your part you do exactly what he tells you to do. If he tells you to walk, walk. If he tells you to take calcium tablets twice a day, then do it. All we can ever do is give it our best shot but we are helping our body when we do all the right things. I lost so much weight when arimadex quit working that now I feel like running a little--actually, a fast walk is better than running. Eat the most nutritious foods you can find. Every day think about what you can do to be healthy and have a healthy body. Cancer doesn't have to beat us if we are always planning a way to beat it. Please let me know how you're doing from time to time and if you are doing any exercise at all you are helping your body. People who exercise every day can live so much longer than if you don't.

I will be praying for you too. Prayers work in so many different ways. Don't let this get you down. Life goes on even when we're fighting a disease. Live each day and do something you enjoy doing.

I hope this has encouraged you a little. I have been on Tamoxiphen for almost a year now and it is working so far. I never know how long it will work but thankful that it is for now.

I appreciate your post. I am feeling a little hopeful today. I walked and juiced a lot today. Thank you for your prayers! I will get an MRI next week and see whats really up. After that I will start Taxaxofin. what stage were you at when you started the tamoxafin? Wendi

I am going to pray that tamoxiphen (I don't know how to spell it) will do exactly what it is supposed to do for your body. Walking is so good for you bones. Juicing sounds good too but I'm not drinking enough water (LOL); I guess there's always room for improvement, right? We need to support each other through this don't you think?

Ladies, I have a friend who was diagnosed stage 4 (mets to bones) years ago. Her oncologist suggested that she should think of it as a chronic illness, kind of like diabetes. Yes, it's probably going to be with you forever. Yes, it can be difficult to live with at times, and yes, it can eventually kill you. But if you treat it properly and are vigilant, there is a lot of life to be lived!

I always thought that was a good analogy. And so true. Hope it helps.

Hi Bev,
That is basically what my oncologist told me except he used heart disease as an example. His analogy has really helped me and the one you shared will too. We have to be diligent each day and keep the faith and mostly HOPE! We can live with it and live longer if we think that way. Our doctors are doing everything they can to help us cope and finding the right drug for us, etc. God bless our doctors!!!

Hi Ladies,

Thank you so much for your posts. I was diagnosed on Tuesday. I felt only sad and afraid since then. This morning I was OK for a while and when I read your posts it kept me thinking in a positive direction. thank you so much.

By the way, fresh vegatable juice has a lot of minerals and vitamines in it and they are easily adsorbed by the body.
And I don't know how to spell tamaxofin either. Thank you for your prayers I will be praying fo ryou too.

Her mets were to the sternum, and she had radiation to the bone. She's still alive and no evidence of disease.

I have a good friend (male... no cancer) who juices. Makes his own. Fruit juice in the a.m., vegetable juice and raw veggies during the day, and a nice meal in the evenings. He's been doing this for about a year. He's lost about 100 pounds and is off all cholesterol, blood pressure, and heart medications, with his doctor's approval. He was inspired by a movie ("Sick, Fat, and Dying" or something like that.)

I think it's "tamoxifen."

How old are you, Wendi?

about your friend, after the radiation to her bones was she able to walk? Was it the radiation alone that stopped the cancer?
I watched that movie. It is on Netflix. very inspiring. There is also Crazy Sexy Cancer for anyone out there looking for a wholistic approach.

I get an MRI tuesday. I get results on wednesday. Sometimes I am hopeful and sometimes I am just scared crap!
I have a friend in a study in NY. they are having great results. I am going to try to get into the study. I expect to know by week end. Thanks for all of your support. Wendi

Just want to thank everyone for there post. I was dx's with stage 4 breast cancer that has gone to the bones. After reading your post I am feeling more hopeful about it all. My dr says I can live with this for a very long time. So thanks again. :)

I am brand new to all of this.  But so appreciate being able to be in touch with others who have walked in front of me. 

I found a lump on my right breast in mid-May.  Have gone through diagnostic mammogram; sonogram; Biopsy (Invasive Lobular Carcinoma); MRI and now a PET Scan.  The Doctors are saying that they feel there are several spots on my Spine (Cervical/neck; Thoracic; and Right Side of my Tail bone/Saccral Spine).  They want to set me up for a bone biopsy...  (I don't have any pain)... 

Has anyone been through this? 

Are they talking about bone marrow?  Or actually taking a piece of bone?  Is the PET Scan definitive? 

I'm "maintaining" well on the outside, but have a lot of fear building within. 

Live alone and don't feel like talking about it to people who don't understand... 

Thanks for your postings. 

They've already helped me a bunch tonight.

Hello everyone,
My Mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer for the third time about four months ago, this time it is stage 4 with mes in her liver, bones, neck and back. It seems everyone has given up on her, including her doctors, she is suffering in pain with fluid around her stomach because of her liver due to the cancer. I am currently pregnant with her first grandchild due in March. Can anyone tell me if they have had positive results with pill form chemo? If anyone can offer their prayers for a miracle or keep my family in their prayers I would really appreciate it, I love my Mom very much and don't know what I will do without her.
