Breast Reconstruction???

Hi Everyone,
I had not even considered reconstructive surgery until my insurance representative mentioned it to me yesterday. I had a lumpectomy, although the surgeon took a pretty good sized chunk out of me. I am very small busted, and just figured I would be wearing a prosthesis in a mastectomy type bra for the rest of my life. Anyway, I just wondered if any of you have had reconstructive surgery following lumpectomy?? Can it be done after one has had radiation??? How do they do a mammogram with implants??? How about pain??? Lots of questions....can you give me some insight???

Hi Jean, I had a benign tumor years ago that took quite a large sized chunk from 9-11 o'clock on my breast. The surgeon suggested plastic surgery and I told him I was not going to dance topless so I would live with it. Within about two years, maybe less the breast was all filled in. I have always tended to be on the heavy side, so I am not sure how it would work if you are on the thin side. But if I were you, I would give it some time and see if it doesn't begin to fill in first. Maybe some others will share their experiences. Hugs MK

PS Ten years later the malignancy was found in the same spot. Don't know what the significance is, but I find it interesting.
