OK Here are two I just learned on the news this morning. One in the newspaper and the other on TV.
In NC surgical instruments were washed in hydraulic oil. I haven't read this whole article yet. My husband called it to my attention. Considering I got contaminated sutures due to mistakes I am seeing red on this one.
On TV I learned they are going to give children Viagra to relax their blood vessels.
Now I will go read the paper and see what else I can learn today. Makes you want to go curl up in a corner and shut out the craziness of the world sometimes.
Hugs, MK
PS update on the hydraulic oil and instruments. Two Duke University related Hospitals were involved. The elevators were repaird and the hyrdraulic oil that was removed was put in empty cleaning formula drums. Evidently the drums were taken to be used to clean the instruments. Mistakes are made all the time, but wouldn't you think someone cleaning instruments would realize something was crazy when it was oily and not soapy? How about the smell? The cleaning agents always have a smell and oil has a distinct smell. How could this happen?
