I feel like a stranger because I am male. I just had high dose rate brachytherapy for prostate cancer in Feb and March of 2013. I had no other treatment. My PSA is doing OK so says my doc. I have a symptom which scares me. I have a tenderness in both breast right at the nipple. It doesn't hurt unless I lay on it or one of the cats walk on me. Then it can be pretty painful. I am not sure if there is a lump or not because I honestly don't know what it should feel like. I have not mentioned this to anyone.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I would definitely mention it, at the very least, to your PCP.

Any type of changes in sensation, lumps, itching, burning, pressure,...I would definitely mention it to your doctor. You aren't alone, honest.

Better to be safe and have this looked at, than to ignore it.

The PC may have bumped you up in the risk category, so having it checked out now would be the safest thing to do.

Quite a few men have breast cancer. I correspond with one man now on Cancer Survivors Network and there are others on Breast Cancer.org. It will help you to be in touch with other men in your situation.

Sandra is correct.

I'm going to a Breast Health Center that is affiliated with the Dana-Farber Institute, and that's all the Center does!

Many times that I've been there, (when we're in the back, where the patients are, not in the waiting room), there are male patients in their gowns there (ie: walking from the exam room over to one of the diagnostic rooms).

Please don't feel like a stranger. You do have company. I can understand it may feel uncomfortable or awkward, but, as Sandra pointed out, it does happen.

When is your next appointment with your physician to discuss this?

Thanks for the comments. I have a follow up appointment with my oncologist in May and will try to talk to him about it. It hasn't been bothering me as much as it initially had. I have also read that pain isn't typically associated with breast cancer (in men at least).

Best wishes to you both in your journeys. My wife has had cancer twice and my sister had breast cancer. I hope you both have a great support system in place.
