Hi All

 

This is my last week of rads, in fact Thursday will be the end of my 7 weeks. I have a CT scan scheduled for tomarrow to do another check up on the "spots" I just want all of you to know how much all of the encouragement has meant to me. Without this site and all of the wonderful people here I don't think this journey would have gone so smoothly.

 

I had a blood test done a week ago and found out that I'm in full blown menopause......Ya think! Hot flashes are coming at about 5 minute intervals. All in all the hot flashes have not been too bad. My onc said that if I were in menopause that I could go on the aromatose inhibiter (sp) so if any of you have some experience with this could you share your stories.

 

Once again, thanks for helping guide me through this journey!

Bernadette: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! What a fantastic way to end March and really start spring! No more treatments. I am so glad that you will have all of this behind you and can now look forward to rebuilding your life w/out treatments! Be sure and watch your skin closely for awhile after Thurs. Remember that radiation burns from the inside to the outside. Also, allow yourself the luxury of resting because you will still be tired for awhile.

As for the "hot flashes". Just remember that we call those "Power Surges"! I can't give you any info on the med but can sympathize w/ those power surges. They are the pits. Bet that your house will be nice and cold this summer!

Again, congrats. Go out and celebrate!

Happy Dancing just for you. I am so happy for you! There is nothing like the feeling you will have walking out into the sunshine. I was torn between so happy I did not know what to do and so scared because for the first time I would not be looked at daily. I was a jumble and decided not to lose a wonderful day with worry about tomorrow. Celebrating for me at 11 in the morning in Philly means a Pats Cheese Steak with a birch beer and a walk through the italian market buying everything I had not been able to eat in so long. My last day of rads was also my last day of chemo. I knew I would be sick again but for some strange reason I was always able to eat the day of chemo better than any other day. So you know who celebrated by walking all over the italian market shopping for goodies. I hope your day is just as wonderful as mine was. I know I will always remember walking out into the sunshine and feeling so torn and deciding to have a great day. Love and hugs, Joyce

Congratulations! :-) I know you're glad it's all over with. I too was kind of scared about getting my last chemo. Like, what happens now? I am having hot flashes too, but not too bad. I am still being cold in the evening at home and find myself under a throw, then all of a sudden my face will feel all flushed for about a minute then it goes away. I am still dealing with my calves swelling and the numb fingers and toes. I had bloodwork done yesterday and my cholesteral is out the roof!

Are you still getting periods? That is the only thing I am looking forward too. I'm still getting the Zoladec shots to stop my period. I haven't had one since September! :-) :-)

Hip, Hip, Hooray!!! Congratulations, you're through. It will be a really great feeling on Thursday and I bet there will be a smile that is a "mile wide" on your face. Congrats also on being in menopause, Arimidex is my drug and I have had no problems with it. No weight gain, no aches no huge "surges". I do have hot flashes, but I was in menopause before BC. I take Paxil, an anti-anxiety med that works well with BC patients and their hot flashes. Mine are now quite mini and I hardly notice them in winter. Spring and summer are coming and they will be noticed again, but not that "glistening kind".

Celebrate Thursday with food, a little shopping, and a glass of red wine (love those anti-oxidents)!!!!!

Congrats Bernadette!!! I hope you have a wonderful weekend planned - although I guess you and DH wont be heading out and doing some dancing...(I hope that he is able to put more weight on his foot now). I just discovered that I am NOT in menopause anymore - I'm glad in a way - but kind of nervous about it too. I'm not sure how this will affect my treatment, but I sure am glad to not have those hot flashes any more!
Have you been tired with the rads? I hope your skin heals soon.

CONGRATULATIONS!  Time does fly.  I'm glad you are done and I'm sure you are, too.  It will take some time to get used to not always going to a treatment, but the day will come when it will be all behind you.  I know it took me a couple of months.  Do something to celebrate this special event.

Hi all

Today is the last day.........not quite sure if I'm happy or sad. I will miss my tech's they were so great to work with. Now I have to go back to full time work, I have been leaving an hour early to go to rads. I worked all of the way through and had a small amount of tiredness. The hardest part for me is getting up in the morning, I feel like I could use a couple more hours of sleep.

Hubby is doing so much better he is able to put about 1/3 of his weight on it. He gets around on just one crutch most of the time. He would love to be able to dance but not quite yet.

CONGRATULATIONS and it'll take awhile to get used to the feeling of NOT being in treatment ! kinda like flying without a safety net, but you'll get used to it! ;-) big hugs, and don't be a stranger around here!! the new ones can always use our help.

Thanks everyone for being there! I got a certificate of completion for finishing my rads. I didn't shed any tears this time, just lots of hugs to my techs and nurse.

Now all I have to do is learn how to live without going to the dDr everyday. LIfe is good and it feels good to have that part of my life done with.

Yea. I am so glad it is done for you. Stay strong and live!! It is strange to lose that consistant Dr. support but you will learn quickly how to do without him/her. It becomes a relief and you can still visit occasionally.

Congrats to the RAD GRAD! Now, on to the next phase of your life....be sure to take us with you! Yes, there is a let down after treatment, just be aware that the feelings are normal...

Congrats for finally being done!  Good for you for not crying.  I sure did on my last day (after I left).  I'm jealous.  I didn't get a certificate.  LOL  It will take some time, but you will get used to not going to the doctor every day.  Glad to hear DH is doing much better.

Hi All

I have to wait until next week for the test to be done......I want it done now so that I will have my results. I guess I will just have to be a little more patient. I will keep you posted.
