Lisa from Funky Winkerbean

Does anyone read this comic strip.  The writer is from Akron so a lot of the items in it are Cleveland related.  Anyways around 6 years ago one of the characters had breast cancer.  He did a wonderful series on it and really hit home on a lot of issues.  THere is even a book out called "lisa's Story". 

Now six years later Lisa's cancer has come back.  And I am horribly upset by this.  Maybe because I too am at six plus years, maybe because I know what the outcome in this has to be, and maybe because I am just sick and tired and seeing my friends get so sick and now the one thing I enjoy reading in the morning is sad too.

I have to wonder if someone the writer is close to has cancer.  He has it the mark too many times where I turn and say... that is exactly how I feel.

I read Funky Winkerbean.  The rumor here is that the High School is actually Westerville High School, here in Westerville OH, not that it matters, it certainly resembles a mid-western area.  The writer has certainly hit on several important issues, divorce, war, and cancer.  I was sorry to read that Lisa is having a recurrence.  Hopefully she will beat the beast for good this time.  Sometimes writers, and non-writers too, find it cathartic to write about what is, for them, out of control.  I hope that whomever he is writing about gets well soon.

It seems that our fears never really go away.  I am suppose to NEVER get the type of breast cancer I had "again".  BUT they have never said I won't get some type of B/C again.  So, I fear mammos and doctor visits and sometimes have to fight the fear.
