epsom salt and chronic fatigue??

Hi, I have been suffering from chronic fatigue for years. Now a friend of mine told that I should take a bath in Epsom Salt to absorb magnesium, which is said to relax the muscles. So did you ever hear about it. And btw what is the best product out there? So many Epsom salt and so much variety in prices. Can somebody weigh in? thanks, joy

I'd be interested in hearing what anyone has come up with as far as actually absorbing magnesium ~ that is, anything that doesn't involve those mile-long needles and deep muscle injections...

Anyone got info about Corvalen M (d-ribose with elemental magnesium) or Calm (instant powder drink mix)?

hi as far as actually absorbing magnesium from the salts i don't have a clue but

Epsom Salt draws toxins out of the body[detoxing],  expect to sweat a bit after the bath

it's only the toxins coming out it does make you feel better and may help you sleep better

1-2 times a week only because of the detox effect

You absolutely do absorb magnesium from Epsom Salts.  This is why Crohn's patients are told not to do this.  Magnesium will cause all manner of problems with Crohn's. 

It is also true that it draws out toxins.  It also helps to heal sprains, strains, bruises, etc.  Here where I live there is only one brands, and it is Epsom Salts.

I am not a chemist, or doctor but I do keep a reef tank and this topic has been covered by more educated persons than I on those forums. Epsom salt sold in pharmacies is magnesium and sulfate which should separate in water, letting the animals (coral and fish) utilize the magnesium. The sulfur builds up but water changes remove it before it can get lethal (though some people insist on never doing water changes and their tanks almost always crash "for unknown reasons"). This question comes up because the magnesium supplements sold for reef tanks come in two forms: expensive and extremely expensive. The expensive version is pharmacy grade epsom salt repackaged for the aquarium industry at several times the regular cost and the extremely expensive should be pure magnesium with no sulphur. So epsom salt was analyzed to see if you could use that and save a chunk of money, and found to be a pretty consistent product when bought for human use regardless of price tag.

I think if you are going to use it in your bath just get the cheapest one. You can also put it in a jar with some herbs like lavender or chamomile to make your bath even nicer. Looks nice on the shelf too. If you leave a big bag of epsom salt out, people think you get constipated all the time (:

How much are people using in baths? It does help. I add some rock salt too, the combo helps heal all my little wounds from gardening and generally being a klutz. I have fibromyalgia, it helps with sacroiliac dysfunction pain but not at all with my hip pain.

Calm is very good for you. You absorb it pretty quickly. It helps to calm the nerves as well. I used to drink the lemon flavored when we first got sick, but I drank so much of it that I now hate the smell of the lemon. I drink the plain. It tastes similar to alka seltzer.

Wow, I am going to try this, taking a bath in epsom salts.  This may help me get to sleep better on those nights I have trouble with insomnia.  thank you.  Denise

Ive used many brands and havent notice any difference between brands. It definitely helps you to relax and is great before going to sleep because it helps you fall asleep easier. I havent had epsom salt baths on a regular enough of a basis though to tell if it helps in the long term for relaxing your muscles.

Hi

I have read a report from Dr AJ Wright. A treatment for removing toxins from the body as below.

A good natural remedy for this is to lie in a warm bath for one and a half to two hours keeping it topped up which has had added to it

One cup of salt

One cup of baking soda

One cup of epsom salts

One cup of aloe vera

Apparently this draws the toxins out and is helpful and is used in many natural medicine circles.

Thanks for this. I certainly want to try it. I have to wait until my bathtub is fixed. For some reason (probably due to age) the faucets have quit working. My husband keeps saying he will fix it so I have even bought the new faucet. I wish I had the strength to fix it myself. But I hate to nag him because he is the only one working now & has that whole burden as well. Wow, 1-1/2 to 2 hours, I will be a prune LOL but if it helps that will be worth it. Hugs, Denise

I think some of you have this wrong ,the idea is not to bath in it bit drink it in water! I tried it while living Thailand,Cant remember the name of the spa I bought it from but it was just plain epsom salts.A Canadian man was the naturalpath at this spa in Koh Samui Thailand.Anyway I couldn't stand the taste so I t didn't last long enough for me to notice any results.I will try to get more info for you all on this.I think the doesage was 2 tabespoons in pineapple or orange juice 3 times a day.

I am actually not really sure if that is going to work out properly. It sounds very much like an order from a quack doctor than profound medical help. doesn't it? I faced chronic fatigue since ages and no one was able to kind of ease me from this feeling of always being tired, and I always had headache and really painful feelings. A doctor gave me a ... prescription for Flexeril... a medicine that eases pain and somehow my fatigue grew weaker with taking it. that is actually what helped me quite a lot.

I know I'm answering this way late, but I'll chime in too.  Magnesium is good for muscle strain and it also relaxes you. But you have to be very careful not to have too much, because it can cause diahrrea.  Natural Calm is a good product for taking magnesium.  I would suggest you start with a half a teaspoon dissolved in about a cup of water twice a day, then work up to more until your stools are comfortably loose. You can have up to three teaspoons per day.  It helps to sip it throughout the day because it is absorbed better and your body can tolerate it better without the diahrrea.  I haven't tried the epsom salt bath, but I plan to.   That is how I discovered this forum.  I would not advice taking epsom salts internally.  Rather use a product like Natural calm or a liquid calcium magnesium supplement that is made for that.  Epsom salts are made for soaking.

Absolutely, I would really go for it, but through Epson Salt baths. Dr. David Jernigan, at the Hansa Center, has it as part of a regular protocol (Perfect 7) and it's available in a book he wrote too I think. I had never heard of the necessity of magnesium until he told me to begin with the baths when it wasn't know if I had CFS, MS or Lyme Disease. Really helped!

The absolute best way to get magnesium is through 100% pure Magnesium Oil. Try it. It is amazing!

Magnesium pills make me feel exhausted/fatigue.

Epsom salt baths feel great. I use 4 cups for my bath x 20 minutes and use sunflower oil while I am still wet for my whole body/face. Then towel dry. Baths can be drying.

Epsom salt is Magnesium sulfate, From my reading, Sulfate is needed for detox. People with chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, allergies have may have faulty sulfate systems. This sulfate is readily absorbed through skin and you get the detox.

Read a lot more RE internal use. It has potential to be dangerous. Too much Magnesium can be toxic to the kidneys. I took it internally...just one grain but i don't make habit of it. Therapeutic doses can border too close to possible toxicity. That's why I prefer & enjoy my baths rather than internal use for detox & pain relief.

Also helpful is the Julie Matthews website diets. I am GFCF, partly SCD (took out all grains & sugar but kept root veges) and Feingold diet. Phenols and salicylates seem to make me feel very angry agitated and hyper. The Epsom salt baths help so much if I make a diet mistake.
