I had a rash that wouldn't respond so a 40mg of prednisone was prescribed and on the morning after the second evening dose I woke up with my short term memory gone. After 2 years it has not returned so I must rely on my husband including typing this for me. Since then I have increasingly needed more sleep and naps due to exhaustion and am sleepy after 10-11 hours at night plus naps that last 3-4 hours unless awoken. Would appreciate any ideas. My thyroid levels were OK last year.

Hi Janet, I am so sorry for your memory problems & your fatigue. It must be very debilitating for you. Are you on Social Security Disability? I hope so, it will help to take some of the pressure off of you. I also sleep very long hours but mine is due to my illness & medication & the fact that I let myself sleep until I am awake. I need to do this so I can have somekind of life, otherwise I am just to tired to move much. Is your sleep refreshing? Do you get into REM sleep & beyond? I was just wondering if this could be some of your problem with fatigue. Have you had a sleep study done? Something you could look into if you haven't. Have you had your D & B vitamins tested? Being low in those can cause fatigue.

Things I use for energy: I drink caffeine, coffee, coke. 85% Dark Chocolate gives me a boost & I have noticed the brain fog lifted some. I take Magnesium Malate & Co Q10 for energy & mental clarity.

Welcome to the forum, my first question is how many drs have you seen for these issues in the last 2 years? Have you seen a neurologist? they are the best ones to ask why and what do I do now? Have you been tested for Lyme disease, different plants, trees, meds that could cause a steroid resistant rash? Staph infections can look like a rash and require IV antibiotics to get rid of. That's my suggestion, oh i almost forgot food allergies! i have those, gluten, dairy and wheat, the wheat makes me break out in a rash but I've never has steroids for it. Can't take 'em they make me violent, my short term memory comes and goes but supplements Really help. Magnesium Malate, Ginkgo Biloba, Vit D and Potassium and Dark Chocolate(I get to eat it for breakfast idea ) so hang in there and keep in touch, both of you yeah

My last reply didn't go through. I've been to 2 neurologists and have had apnea tests, "mild", there is very little experience with an overnight loss.

For me a lot of my chronic fatigue is suspected to be the result of autoimmune flare-ups. The problem with getting that diagnosis is that it took over a year and a very dedicated Neurologist. I struggle daily with heavy fatigue to the point where I am taking as much supplements, sugar and caffeine that I can possibly to get through a day's work in a call center. Most days I can sleep 12-14 hours and still be barely functional. Disability would be nice, but for those under 40 the government thinks we are still quite able bodied, even with documented disease, and encourage us to continue working. So I work low energy barely living wage jobs that I can physically handle until I am at the age that the government deems is acceptable to be disabled.
