Seeking answers

I am not sure where I should post this, so if the mods feel it is better on another thread, please move it...

I am posting this in search of a strange viral infection attacking my oldest son (22).  This started 3 years ago and at the same time of the year, (which is now) he falls violently ill.  Here is a list of symptoms.

The first two years:
Bad back ache w/muscle aches

Headache

Fever w/chills

Fatigue

No appetite

This year he has vomiting.

We took him to the ER last night, because his head pain was more than he could bare and nothing was releiving it...That is when we found out it was not the flu, they did a swab nasal test on him, it came back negative to the flu. 

The ran a CBC, electrolites, and all showed perfect.  They sent off some of his blood to be tested in culture...

The doc said it was a viral infection that had to run it's course...He ruled out menigitis because he was still alive at this point, if he had it he would have already past on from it...It's been cycling now for 2 weeks...

Anything? Anybody?

Shortstop, I'm so sorry to hear about your son. It must be really frustrating and scary to not know what is wrong. Handyman has a good idea about checking into tick related illnesses. I have read from a lot of people on the lymes forum that lymes is very difficult to diagnose because a lot of times it doesn't show up in labs. You could post this info on the lymes forum too and see what they think. Have the doctors done a blood test to check for the epstein barr virus? That way you will know if he ever had it or if it is still active. Some people have what is called chronic epstein barr or chronic mono. If you haven't taken your son to an infectious disease doctor it might be worth a visit to one. Let us know if you have any other questions.
