Hi Cen! Greetings from a biker chick to a fellow biker.
Can't drive any longer, but at least on a good day I can still enjoy a day ride on hubby's Electra Glide. Yeah, we're old enough to have traded the Low Rider for the bigger, more comfortable Harley. I wish we'd already had this bike when we did the Route 66 run a few years ago. I still have the iron *ss to prove it!
I had my left shoulder done twice. It was a mess of torn and overly stretched ligaments so it kept dislocating every time I turned around. I did the rehab religiously, and it finally froze up solid. Surgery #2 was called a Mumford procedure, where the end of my collar bone was cut off where it goes into the shoulder joint. You could clearly see it sticking up - didn't need an x-ray to see the problem. Back to the OR and physical therapy where I knew exactly what kind of pain I was in for. I've also had 2 neck fusions with all the hardware, but that's another story. It took about
a year, but after the Mumford I rarely have any pain in that shoulder, and can even sleep on that side for the first time in years.
My CP issues are due to abdominal scar tissue, but I know bone pain can hang on for months and years after it has supposedly healed. One of the best gadgets I was prescribed was the ice water cooler with the attached unit that goes around the entire shoulder area including the shoulder blade. I woke up from both surgeries with one on, and it made a tremendous difference in the post-op and rehab pain. Wish I'd had one of those for neck but they weren't manufactured back then. I even brought the rig to work with me for the first couple of weeks after surgery. I called it my Squid. If I had to leave my desk, I'd unhook the hose attachments so I didn't have to deal with reattaching the cooling pad every time. Walking down the hallway the hose ends would flap around like tentacles. LOL! Pretty lame I guess, but you have to get a laugh where you can.
Anyway, welcome! Sorry you have to be here, but glad you found us.
