I need to vent...I am stuck in bed with the flu or food poisning and it is reacking havoc on my IC and endo.  I woke up this morning with the worst nausia...5am no docs open and there was no way I could take my pills.  My husband had to drive back home from the city and take me to the ER where they did all of nothing for the worst abdominal pain of my life. Honestly even on my worst day it was nothing like this.  They would barely give me anything for the pain.  They would only give me 1mg of dilaudud and looked at me like I was completely crazy when I told them it didnt work.  I nearly flipped out on the nurse who flat out asked me if I was an addict...even if I was, do they really think I would have said-oh yeah I'm an addict and tryingto get high-common sense people...thats all I ask a little common sense from people who are supposed to be so intellegent.  I dont know maybe when you have that much book smarts common sense gets tossed out the window.  So finally I told them if they arent gonna treat my pain properly I would be better off at home.  You wouldnt believe there attitudes change.  They went from the wicked evil witch to angels.  They still did all of nothing for my pain, but there compassion went through the roof.  They did give me more anti-vomit meds than I can even take in the next month, but right now I would rather be throwing up than wanting to perform surgery on myself.  Then the nurse at my pain doc told me to take lortab, so I called back to say it was working a bit and she all of a sudden said-your using lortab to treat the flu???-uh stay with me here whatever is going on is making my bladder and endo hurt so badly I actually want to die...you were the one who just heard the whole situation 20 min ago and told me to take lortab...I am either going crazy or they are.  Anyhow I just needed to vent because I have never felt this bad and there is nothing I can do!!!! I think its probably the flu because my body aches so  badly and I dont have a fever.  Has anyone else gotten the flu this season...how long will I be like this??? sad sad mad mad

Oh...I feel for you. It's not like the pain etc is bad enough -- you have to tolerate that garbage from the medical staff! Words come to mind but they'd be purged....hang in there, this too shall pass.

Thanx guys...I'm taking advantage of a momentary let up all my meds are giving me!!! You know you may not be able to treat the flu or food poising with narcotics but they sure do give you a tiny break, especially because my pain doc never lets me take thera flu or nyquil...I'll revel in this for as long as it lasts!!! I will defenitly be visiting my PCO tomorow and I will demand something to ease the hell the flu causes:(

I has something similar for 3 weeks in November. Total nausea and my fibro pain was awful. Ended up in ER twice for dehydration. What you likely have is not flu...that's respiratory...but a virus. Antibiotics won't help a virus, only bacterial stuff. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be treated by a doc. Get an appointment and go in and talk to the doc. Stay hydrated, drink things like Gatoraid. Keep any fever down and rest. That's all they could do for me. BUT, I'm NOT saying this is what you have, just that it sounds like what I had. Please get a diagnosis from your doc.

This is a question for ObtuselyOblique"OO":

 

I read in your reply that you have Polyneuropathy.  What did it result from??  I have dysautonomic polyneuropathy and pure autonomic failure.  What were the presenting symptoms that warranted the diagnosis?

Well, I did or I guess still do have the flu. I do have small resiratory sympotoms but for me mostly stomach symptoms and really bad muscle cramps. I guess I can see why pain meds help and why the nurse asked me. It probably would have been worse without them. Small plus for the side of pain management. When I had to go get fluids at the ER again then said they have had to admit some people, guess I got off lucky in comparison. I'm just glad I'm finally able to sit up. I hardly even remember posting in the first place!! I never used to get sick and alot of people think IC might be auto-immune. I lean towards that belief since I have never gotten the flu let alone been sick with other bugs so often.
I'm glad to be beack. I missed chatting on the forum.

Well, I had an obgyn who said she couldnt remove it for various reasons so I was put on lupron which destroyed my body. Being 28 in menapause and newly married is a nightmare, not to mention I feel like I went to bed one night and woke up 50 pounds heavier...bigger nighmare. It became too much so I went off the hormones. Lately the endo has caused me such severe pain. Since endo can progress I'm wondering if it hasnt developed on my bladder which would explain the severity in my pain for the past 6 months. Last month they were so bad for who knows what reason I eneded up having to be taken to the ER. My pain doc has been nice and understnading enough to help me control it as best she can for now but I know i need a second opinion. I cant expect her to keep giving me pain meds for it when there are things I can do that I just dont want to because I dont want to go into medical menapause again. Its just a depressing thought. I'm thinking maybe a secnd opinion can find a way to laser it out or come up with another way of controling it. But exams are so painful for me and I avoid them like the plague. I'm so afraid it will send me into a flare that I couldnt control.
But I guess the short answere to your question is yes, I'm going to do something. The other thing is I need an understanding obgyn who also has alot of compassion. If they dont, they may not take as much care during an examination. Alot of docs dont seem to take it as seriously as they should.

I know you are young but a Hysterectomy would take care of. I had it and they did on me a total Hys.

I've already begged and pleaded. They just wont listen. Your too young...blah...blah. You might change your mind(about kids)...blah...blah
Its all I hear like a broken record. I appriciate them watching out for me, but if they felt this pain they would take me under the knife immediatly and then apologize for saying no to begin with.
Its something to ask about at a second opinion though...thanx
