I take Vicodin 10mg 4 times a day. My rheumy wants me to try ultram ER to see if that will help me.I want to try it but,  if I don't take the vicodin and try the ultram and the ultram doesn't help, can I still take a vicodin in the same day?

Not quite sure about Vicodin, but my pain doc gave me the Ultram ER to try as well. I have found that it's not a replacement for the Percocet 7.5/325 taken 6x/day, but it has helped a bit with the breakthrough pain I have in between Percocet.

thanks for the reply. I'm so undecided if I should try it or not then again if I never try, I will never know.

It may depend on your pain. Ultram is not as strong as the vicodin, but an extended release (ER) may help manage your pain a little better. I would ask your doctor about his/her plans for breakthrough (BT) pain. I'm not sure, but my guess is you might be able to take some vicodin for BT - but not as much vicodin as you're taking now. With most ER meds, even oxycontin, many people still need something for BT pain, as the ER meds last for different periods of time for different individuals. Talk with your doc. so you've got a plan in place should you have BT pain.

I take the regular Trammadol  100 mg 4 times a day . Tried the Extended release one and it did not work as well , the other Trammadol was better . its just how your body handles it. If the Ultram er doesnt work as the dr to try trammadol 100 4 times a day .

Thanks for the input all.  I would agree that I will need something for BT pain and so I will have to speak with my Dr.

Ultram, I think can be taken with Vicoden, but ask your doc, as I don't know your other meds, I think I had taken them at the same time before.

Also, I take MS Contin, and the pharmacy one time gave me the ER instead, so I tried them anyway, and I felt that I didn't get as much relief!  Weird I know, but I guess getting the meds all into my system at once helps keep a better level, as the ER meds are supposed to!!  LOL!  But as it has already been said, many times, people are different, and meds react different, so try it, maybe you'll like it!  You can always stop the med if you don't!
