Burning pain in feet and legs

For the last two weeks my right foot and leg was very painful and was on fire. I went to my regular doctor to see if the x-ray would show a fracture or anything wrong with the bone. The x-rays were clean. Then, yesterday my left foot and leg started to hurt and burn as well. Now BOTH my feet and legs are painful and on fire! It is pretty bad. Someone said I seem to have symptoms of Peripheral Neuropathy. I am now in search of a foot doctor and hopefully get an appointment for this week or next week. I need this to stop! It is pretty bad. It hurts to walk on my feet. They are also very sore. I am constantly soaking my feet in cold water to stop the burning feeling, but it doesn't really help.

Any advice? Thank you in advance!

AFter reading your diagnosis, and your description, my thought would be to consult a neurologist as soon as possible. You didn't say just foot symptoms, but also indicated the pain was going down your legs. And with two injured lumbar disks those could be worsening and causing nerve pain which could go down the legs and into the feet (ask a lot of us!). So something in your spine may be worsening and the sooner you learn what it is the better. That was the sooner you can get it treated. You can go to a foot doc if you want, but I'd also go to a neurologist, just to rule out spine problems.

The pain wasn't going down my legs...it was coming UP my legs from my feet...spreading to my calves. Sorry for not being clear enough.

I don't want to see a neurologist cause I know it means that he/she's going to want to do an EMG test on me. I've had an EMG test done a few years ago, and OMG, that was painful! I wanted to kick the doctor in the BALLS! And after the test, my whole body was on fire that night and I ended up in the ER and had to be given Morphine. I don't want to go through that ever again. I am very very very afraid.

Hi , I cant help but reply. I dont have burning in the feet but I get restless leg syndrome and arm syndrome I think its from Norco. If I go off the norco or run out I cant sleep I toss and turn with pain and my legs shake and hands and its like Im in convulsions. So it could be one of your meds. I have bone cancer and a rod in my left femur it was fractured. I also had breast cancer a double mastectomy and reconstruction, I have a stent in my chest because radiation collapsed all my veins. I take tons of meds plus chemo each week. I just started having problems lately with vomiting and diareah. But there was one night that i ran out of pain killers and I have to tell you my feet wouldnt stop jittering all night long and my arms too. Does your feet burn when you run out of Norco? Or dont you ever run out? Good luck

Here is my list of meds

Coumedin 4 and 6 mgs
Plavix 75mg
Thyroid meds 88mgs
Femara 2.5 mgs
Norco 325/10 12 a day
MScontin ( morphine 60mgs )
Lexapro 20 mgs
Plus chemo each week and Zofrane when needed for nausea.

I never run out of Norco. The burning and the pain started two weeks ago.

Hi there! Burning pain is a sign of some sort of nerve disturbance. It could be a compressed or inflamed nerve somewhere in your feet or it could be a syndrome like RSD, which usually starts in one limb and mirrors in the other. Are you having any color changes at the moment?

Last Fall, the bottom of my left foot started hurting. Shortly after that, the right foot joined in. Soon, both my legs were in pain, and my thighs were on fire, and I mean burning. My legs and feet would go from pain to fire, fire to pain, etc. My PCP sent me to a Rheumatologist, who told me I had Fibro. He put me on Lyrica, which calmed things down, but I still have very painful flareups. I take narcotics for neck and upper back pain. The Lyrica doesn't help the neck pain, and the narcotics don't help the Fibro pain.

My husband is a diabetic and suffers from neuropathy in his feet. He takes Lyrica for that, and it helps him a great deal. He describes the pain as fire as well. Good luck, and I hope you find relief soon.

yep get some lyrica,they will start u at 75mg once a night and then go to 2, 75 mg a day and so on till u get to like in the 100mg ballpark. I topped off at 600mg a day but got releif the first day with the 1st pill at 75mg but then they keep upping till your pain stays good on a reg basis. Lyrica was the only thing that took away the burning in legs and feet and helped with some muscle pain too.

I would go to the neurologist sounds like nerve damage to me . A neurologist can help you find out what is causing it. Good Luck.

For the past couple of weeks I have had this burning pain aroun d my ankles and on top of my feet.  I also get it around  the front of my neck.  I can't sleep at night with this burning pain unless I take a sleeping pill and I don't want to get hooked on sleeping pills. Could this be nerve damage.

It is possible that it is some kind of nerve damage or the nerves are being effected by something. It is also possible it could be an allergic reaction to something?

Do you have any health issues such as diabetes? Have you started any new medications or have you had any dose changes within a month or two since the burning started? Have you moved, changed soaps, laundry detergents, lotions, etc within a month or two since things started?

You also might want to consider starting a new thread too since this one is a few years old. Might get better results/comments and it would also make it easier for you to find in the future.

Hello, I am not sure I can advise you, but it sure sounds like neuropathy to me.  While I was already suffering with various things wrong with my back, I fell and when I got up and until I found a doctor who could treat it, it was the worse and I mean worse pain in the world.  The burning never ends, before I got the diagnosis I accidently overdosed on my meds trying to stop the pain.  It was totally accidental, I never have been and never will be someone who would ever consider that an option.  I was just trying to get rid of the pain.

I was given 3 faucet injections 2 weeks apart.  For me that took care of the blinding burning pain in my lower right leg and it left my right foot numb, but numb was a small price to pay to get rid of that burning.

Also, I was not even diagnosed with neuropathy until maybe 2-3 years later.  Oh well, what ya going to do?

Sorry about your pain. Really sounds like you need a good level neurologist to start with. Hope you can find some relief soon.

I have been thru 15 surgeory's over the last 25 yrs and the last time I was injured and was pushed into a wall by a truck. Disk's L3-L4-L5-S1 removed/fusion, multiple laser nerve burns, sterroid/cortisone injections , rehab and other stuff I'm sure I am forgetting . Stimulator implant removed from staff infection. I currently have a morphine pump and after a yr the doctor finally got it tuned in and got excellent results for almost 4 yrs. Now the pain in my legs and feet has gotten extreme again. It burn's, aches,shooting pain, cramp's, turns ice cold and numb. I take a strong pain killer and my body has gotten used to it and is not very efective anymore. I went to try to find some over the counter relief after being awake for the 3rd day in a row. I bought a creme called " the original blue emu super strength creme" . It cost $12 and say's to apply several time's a day. After that use as needed. I used it about 6 times the day I bought it and applied it liberally while rubbing and massaging from my thigh  to my feet for about 5 minute's each leg. I WAS BLOWN AWAY AT THE REILIF. First night I got 3 hrs or so of relief and actually got several hrs of sleep. It is supposed to need applied less as your body absorb's it. I am on my 3rd day and all I can say is if you hurt from nerve damage/pain in your leg's/feet , which is the hardest pain to relieve, go right now and buy some. It is not a %100 relief but if you hurt 24/7 then any kind of relief is welcome.

meds: dilavid,linosipril,morphine pump almost maxed out,lyrica

 

Be careful, I know you all hurt but I was put on 1 med after another and soon you are taking so many that your so doped up and rum-dumb you can't walk or talk. The morphine pump was put in after a suicide attempt and was a blessing but like all meds your body adjust to what you take. Now a stronger narcotic has to be put in and started at base level and experiencing that kind of pain agian has got me wigged out. So basically If I have to buy a jar of this a day until the pump works I will do it . At least I can walk and talk without being all doped up.

Hi cutnshoot, you posted on a thread thats from 2008, we usually ask new members to make a new thread so everyone will see it, and can get to know you. I'm glad you found the forum, but sorry for the many problems that brought you here. It sounds like you have an interthecal pump, I hope they get that figured out and working for you again. There are a few members here that have had to go that route, perhaps they might be able to give you some insight on it that might help you. Take care, and I hope you are able to get your pain under control, it sounds like you've had a lot of bad things going on for a while. God bless, and good luck.

I too have a pump and I am curious what mg of Dilaudid is in your pump & how much you get in 24 hrs. also, is Dilaudid the only medication in your pump? I have a combo of meds in mine & Dilaudid is the pain medication used in it.

I have the same symptoms as the person in the first post. I've been to my regular doctor, an orthopedic sourgen, the ER, a foot specialist, and then a rhumetologist this week and waiting on results. Dose anyone have any answers to this problem. My next visit is going to be to a neurologist. I haven't worked in 6 weeks and my famy lost our health insurance when my wife got laid off in July. So the medical bills are stacking up. I just want my next doctor visit to be the last.
