I am taking my full prescribed amount of Methadone. (160 mg. 3 X a day)
I also have Morphine Sulfate, instant release 30 mg. in between times
if I get into pain.
If I don't take the Morphine, I take Xanax 1 1/2 mg. (I do not take any
pills close together.)
Anyway, for the past 4 days I've been out of pain. First time in 6 1/2 years.
The feeling is beyond belief. I am happy.

My Question: How long will it be before my system adjusts to this amount
and wants more? Two weeks? Two months? Two more days? What do you
guys think?

I hope this good feeling lasts through the move. I need it to. I have to help
my husband because we can't afford to hire help.

Maybe I'll cut my medication back tomorrow. Nothing is going on.

After 4 days, I'll hate the pain.

I could not find the place where it says the maximum amount of Methadone
you can take.

Hi Pam,

How long have you been taking methadone?

I have been taking it for about 4 weeks now,  but obviosly lower mg's. I'm not sure about the med. Itake dillaudid as well and I think it might be the dilladid in between because if I dont take it I find my foot will start to have the crps symptoms again. I keep going up on the methadone every 5 days. I take 20 mg 2x per day and 10mg 1x. I will continue the .5 increase but I just wanted to know at what point did you feel as though the methadone was working by itself and not the breakthru meds?

Wow, that is a lot of methadone!!!  I thought 120mg daily was a high dose.  But I am so glad you have found something that helps, isn't it great???  To answer your question:  You should be good on your dose for at least a year or more.  Methadone is good about that, you will be good.

I am glad to hear that you have found a dosage that is working well for your pain.
Quick question for you - - you said 160 mg 3x per day. Are you saying 160 mgs total for the day, taken in 3 doses? Or 160 mgs per dose, 3x a day, for a total daily amount of 480 mgs??
I am assuming the first - total for the day of 160mg, but wanted clarification from you.

I also currently am prescribed a combonation of methadone and oxycodone, which is working pretty well for me.
For most, methadone does not "stop working" requiring increasing amounts to get the same pain relief when you are on a dose that works, unlike many other opiates. I've found that to be a positive with this med.

Anyway, just wanted to ask you / clarify the above and tell you that I'm happy you have found the right dose that is helping you after suffering for so long!!

And wishing you lots of luck for many more painfree days!!!!

YIP-EEEEEEEEE!!!!!! I'm so happy for you!!! That is great news, I'm doing my happy feet dance> OUCH!!> No more happy feet dancing today for me! No kidding though, you deserve to be pain free but please be carefull helping your Hubby. It's not often that I am pain free but there are times when I think and feel like I can do more than I know I can't! You know what I mean, well, I end up hurting myself and then no amount of my meds help. I end up cursing myself and calling myself names that my wife agrees with! Just remember, you are not cured, the pain is still in there waiting to rear it's ugly head. It's just masked by the meds. Injuring or inflaming your back is a NO-NO! Please be carefull.

I'm so glad to hear that you are finally getting some relief!! As Pete said, be careful not to overdo it, but enjoy your painfree days!

Pam that is awesome to hear you say pain free. That is wonderfull. You should not cut back your doseage, creates too much havoc on the system, stay with your current dose and enjoy the benefits of it. Not many of us can report what you did.

No one really knows when a person will become toleate of their doseage. Instead of worrying about that, enjoy your pain free time. Hugs, Susie

I have to echo straydog and Pete. You worked so long to get to some pain free place, please follow your doctor's instructions now about dosing and don't play with it, ok? Everyone's body is too different to really predict how long a dose will last. I think you need to deal more with your worrying now than playing with the dose. Enjoy it!! BUT as Pete has said please don't overdo it while moving!!! That would be so easy to do. So be as careful as you would be if you were feeling the pain. Let others do the lifting and you just wrap things and put them in boxes, etc. And take a lot of breaks.

Then you'll be able to enjoy more pain free days in your new home!!!

Pamela- I am SO happy for you. I didn't like methadone (it didn't work for me) & my pain clinic won't prescribe a BT med with methadone. Just stay cautious with your activities & I am praying you can begin living a full life again. I am so very happy things are looking up.... my only question is - are you sure its the methadone or is it perhaps infused with grapejuice? :)

i cant believe that in order to be pain free i need to take meds all day everyday for ever. do you learn to drive and function while taking heavy pain meds or what i guess i should be thankful my kids gave me a place to live? frustraited and in pain .c5-6 fusion arms and legs ridiculopithy +weekness

I take 40 mg. of Methadone 3 times a day. The total amount would
be 120 mg. in a day.

Hello All ~

At the beginning of taking the increased dose of Methadone,
I had a big lift out of pain.
I'm kinda back where I started from now. It was just a quick trip over
to North Euphoria.
It was a good trip. Hey! it's great over there, but I'm back.
Now, no matter how much grape juice I drink I'm still the same old me
with a pain in my neck
and back.
