Hello everyone!! I hope everyone is having a great holidays!!! So what do you guys do when your horribly sick and you have a billion things to do for the holidays and with little ones?? My bronchitas is getting worse by the minute even with antibiotics. When I went to the doctor a few days ago he kept asking me if I REALLY took the last antibiotic (z-pack) and I kept saying yes, of course I did, I dont want ot be sick anymore. SO he prescribed me Clarithromycin antibiotic with Tessalon perles for the cough and The antibiotic is making me feel worse from the side effects. I have to run to the bathroom every 3 minutes and feel very nauseated. Does anyone have any home remedies for Bronchitas??? It seems like every holiday since I can remember I've been sick with something, when I was younger it was always Strep throat, then as I got older it was sinus infections usually accompanied with an ear infection and pharangitis, and then last year I had strep (never want to go through that pain again). With my back pain it just makes it so much worse. And then to top it off I have a neighbor who doesnt drive and kept pushing me to go buy her soda last night and I told her nicely on the phone that I was ill so about 20 minutes later she came knocking on my door asking again. So I told her nicely again that I cant, I cant be away from a bathroom for more then a few minutes and my body aches dont feel much better in the snow. So she gave me the guilt trip so now I feel terrible because I refused to go. I know it shouldn't but when she gets sick it's like she wants everyone to feel bad for her, and I usually do, but why is it when I'm sick she acts like I'm faking eventhough she saw me running to the bathroom and having to lay down when I wasnt. Now I guess she's refusing to watch my kids when I go to my doctor's appointment out of town tomorrow and I dont want to drive in this dangerous road conditions with my kids. This is making me feel so much more sick. I've been laying on the couch all day not answering my phone or the door, I needed some time to myself while my kids where at school, so now I'm behind on my errands I was suppose to do today. It's so frustrating. Thank you for listening.

That is just terrible what your neighbor is doing to you! She seems like a very selfish and immature person. Do NOT let this person make you feel guilty for anything. You can't help being sick.

As for running to the bathroom all the time, am I assuming it's for a bowel habit? If so, can you take Pepto Bismo or Immodium?

It's OK for you to say no!! It sounds like you're the type of person that has difficulty doing that (the guilt trip thing) but when you're struggling with so many physical challenges yourself you may not have a choice. Plus you may need to scale back re: errands, Christmas stuff, etc. I do minimal things, and a lot doesn't get done, though I don't have chldren - just an extended family. But I've only bought a few gifts and am intimately familiar with the dollar stores!

Is there anyone else who could help? A friend, family member, someone from a local Church, etc.? Even just to help watch the kids while you go to your appointment. Maybe you'll just have to take them, but if the roads are that dangerous isn't there any way you can get more meds from your doctor over the phone - if it's antibiotics and such. I can't remember all the details - was this appointment tomorrow with your pm doc? Maybe you could ask your pm doc to give you enough meds to get you through the holidays, and have them verify with your doc that you're ill, plus the roads, etc.

It's such a shame, a dirty shame, we have to go through all this just for a little relief.

Do you have a humidifier? That always helps me with bronchitis. It won't replace the meds, but could add to their effectiveness. I have a warm air humidifier. If you get one of those be sure it either has a UV light to kill the bacteria or else clean it every day & add bacteriostat to make sure nothing is growing in the water tank. Or you could just get a cold air humidifier, but I've found those don't work as well for me.

If your neighbor comes over again tell her you're contagious & you don't want her to catch what you have (who cares whether it's true or not; I don't know what her deal is with being so high pressure about having to have her soft drinks). Usually people will cut you some slack if they think they'll catch what you have.

I know you'll have to go out for your doctor's appointment, but is there some way you can take care of some other errands from home (like order groceries through PeaPod or call your dry cleaners to see if they will pick up & drop off your dry cleaning from your home)? Usually there are special offers for first time customers so it won't even cost you more money to have things delivered to you. It's definitely a stressful time now with the holidays & some things may just have to be left undone but for those things that absolutely can't be left for another time, I would encourage you to try to find a creative way to do them from home. As far as Christmas presents, one year my family swapped that out for Three Kings' Day (Jan. 6th -- aka the 12th Day of Christmas). All you do is swap out shoes for stockings & "camel food" for cookies/milk. It is a lot of fun & your children will have a blast telling the other kids at school how the the camels brought them all kinds of presents (plus, sometimes you can get them even more stuff b/c you get the after-Christmas clearance specials). There are plenty of books & websites about it so you can sit down and share that information with the children about how Santa will be coming on a special day this year. They can make a little paper calendar with the 12 days on it & count down until January 6th. It really can be a lot of fun. Try not to stress yourself out over the holidays. In the end, sometimes the things we have to re-work are the most wonderful memories we leave for our loved ones.

Thanks for the replies. Well my neighbor just called and I guess she decided to walk to the store herself in the snow, and I guess she fell down from the snow on the sidewalk by my apartment and I guess she threw her shoes trying to hit my window ROFL. I didnt hear her outside but thats what she gets for harrassing me. She tried to pull that stuff on me again tonight but of course I told her I was sick again so I'm just waiting now for to come knocking on my door. The appointment tomorrow is for my doctor that prescribes my Suboxone and I already called him on tuesday knowing hte weather was gonna be nasty but they said I had to be seen by him, he doesnt call in any refills or partials for absoutly any reason. And I really really do like him so I dotn want to switch doctors, plus I've already spent too much money on my visits and cant afford to start all over again (the first appointment was $500). But the good news is that so far there wont be a 2 hour school delay again like they've had all week, so as long as my kids go to school on time tomorrow I wont have to worry about a babysitter, but now my son is crying and begging me not to go, he's scared I'm going to get in an accident and die. I'm just so worried about this trip tomorrow, I hate traveling every 4 weeks but I dont have a choice and in the snow I'm a very nervous driver, my shoulder and neck muscles tighten up so bad and then getting out of the car when I'm done I walk like a 80 year old. This doctor only deals with the suboxone and not any other issues so I cant really talk to him about bronchitas and this pain from it, he would just tell me to follow up with my regular doctor. But I think he should be fair and feel sorry for the patients that have to drive a far distance in bad weather but I guess he's gotta make his money somehow ($131 every 4 weeks out of pocket). Well if you dont hear from me by tomorrow afternoon you'll know I didnt survive lol.

milk, chocolate cake. Every afternoon or every evening. Every single person in
the pain gang would do the same. What kinda neighbor do you have anyway, girl?

Awe, The best thing is to try to not the this bad neighbor get to you
and to try to get some rest. I'll says a prayer for you.
I feel the same as Pamela, I'd be bringing you something to eat, if
I was near you, try to get some chicken noodle soup down if you can.

and don't worry about that neighbor.

Well, Kitty, I'm glad you haven't lost your sense of humor in all this. She threw her shoes?? smhair If she comes to your door tell her you're not Bush and this isn't Iraq! smilewinkgrin

I know about having to drive distances in bad weather. Look, sometimes it's not as bad as you think it's going to be, and if you're like me your worry all the day before about something you can't have any control over. If it's seriously bad, you just can't go and that's that. There is no sense losing your life if it's a blizzard or an ice storm. Do you have an ER near you? If the weather is seriously bad can you just go there and explain and ask for a temporary refill on the suboxone? I mean, they'd know the weather situation by looking out the window.

If you get on the road and it's kind of just winter weather, well, take a relaxing CD to put on, make sure you have some blankets and warm coffee and your cell phone, and make an adventure of it. And just stop or turn around if it gets too crazy. That's the best you can do. We'll all send you calming energy. yeah

Thank you again for the sweet replies. I almost forgot about that Bush thing lol. I'm going to take the advise on making it an adventure but my radio doesnt work for some odd reason and keep forgetting to get that looked at so that just makes it harder on keeping my mind busy. This drive is so boring, theres nothing but cows and more cows to look at. Last time I went I took my kids with me and they kept asking me why I was driving around in circles, I guess it kinda feels that way lol. But the trip to the ER is out of question cause a doctor cannot prescribe it without being certified for it, and the nearest doctor that is certified is the doctor I'm going to, so theres nothing they can give me to even replace it while taking Suboxone cause the way it works is that it blocks out other narcotics and then when it's time to get back on the sub I would have to go thru withdrawals because Suboxone can cause precepitated withdrawals if you have another pain med in your body, it's a very weird narcotic, these people are getting smart in the way they make these new prescription drugs. I do have a little stash hidden away for emergencies but not enough to last me til after the new years. I guess I waited too long to get my oil changed, they where all closed by 4pm so I went to put oil in myself and couldnt figure out which kind to buy for the life of me so luckly this sweet lady that worked at the gas station looked it up in my van's owner manual for me. Then my gas cover was frozen on so that was fun, I was screaming from the pain of the freezing cold and not being able to turn it, I just felt like whatever could go wrong was gonna go wrong, so by the time I got it open and got back in the van my kids drank my Italian soda I bought from the gas station, just wasnt fair!!! I guess I should go to bed before my day gets any worse and hopefully get some sleep for my drive tomorrow. Good night.

I'm so sorry that you have been having such a rough time lately! Bronchitis is just awful! I used to get it all the time when I was little. I'd literally have it the entire winter & I was an athlete and racing would cause me to redevelop it again! So I can definitely sympathize with you! I agree with the others to forget about your neighbor. You are sick (in addition to being in pain), end of story. She should respect that. I cannot believe she threw a shoe at your window! What a ridiculous & obnoxious thing to do! I'm glad it didn't actually hit the window, then you could have had even more problems on your hands!

Good luck driving to the doctor's today! Please drive carefully! Take your time, go slow, and if you have to, turn around. It isn't worth putting your life at risk. We've also been getting a lot of winter weather here lately. We had an ice storm a few days ago, and today we are getting a snow storm that is supposed to bring up to 16 in! I love the snow when I'm home & don't have to go out, like today, but I know all to well that driving in it can be quite a nightmare! We're supposed to get another big storm on Sunday too, and possible yet another one on Christmas Eve. It sounds like this is going to be a snowy winter for most of the country!

Hello Everyone. I made it back alive!!! Actually the roads wernt too bad, about 20 miles out it was kinda rough but the rest of the way it was dry and the same way back, nice and dry til almost home. I guess after next month I only have to visit the doctor once every 2 months so thats great for me. I talked to the doctor about how the Cymbalta was working great for me at 30mgs and when we went up to 60mgs I got very drowsey and felt like it stopped working, so he told me to just hold on a little bit longer before we decide to change the Cymbalta. He said my depression and anxiety is probably just from the holidays and being sick (I didnt tell him about my annoying neighbors). I really need to move out but I cant cause I'm on section 8. The people that live upstairs (not the one that threw the shoes) are very heavly into bad stuff and it scares me to death, especially if they find out I'm getting prescribed pain meds, and I guess one of the lady's husband is getting out of prison here next week which is making me not be able to sleep. I dont know what I'm gonna do. I wish I was working so I could afford a regular apartment. Now I just hope the doctor remembered to call in my meds this time cause last month he forgot to after our visit, so I better go to the pharmacy and check before the doctor goes home for the day and holidays. Bubye.

i used to get pneumonia & bronchitis every year until i moved to florida. there are 2 home remedies i use. the tefflon pearls will help eventually. i like to make a cup of hot tea, a little sugar & add a peppermint to it. (the pepperment & heat feels so goooood) and the old school asthma trick-put your head over a bowl of hot water/almost boiling then put a towel over your head & the pot- helps you breathe in the steam & i joke i get a mini facial. there is also a thing called a netti pot- you can get them at a cvs, its a strange little pot you pour saline up your nose & it comes out the other nostril, its hard to explain- google it to see if there is a video of it. you will see lots of gunk come out the nostril, repeat in the other nostril. it works! hope you feel better soon.

sometimes ppl are so dense. my mother would want me to drive her around when I was sick and I told her that I was on meds and I was not going to risk a dwi and I sid are you going to pay my fines if that happens. you don't need ppl like that in your life. next time tell her no and then when she argues with you tell what part of no don't you understand?

It is past time for you to put you first.Tell the neighbor to call a cab.If you have other things to do get your family to do it.Go to bed and stay there untel you are better or are going to end up in the hospital so please take care of you.If you end up in the hospital you will not be able to help any one for anything and you will have a big bill.So please get some rest think of it as a christmas presant to your self.
