Question about pain meds and allergic reactions

Maybe a topical lotion, there are many on the market, you'll just have to pick and choose one.
putting a hot pad on your bed at night help? it helps me...till it cools off...lol
wrtite this question down and ask your doctor, there are lots of pain meds out there and a new one coming out
soon for fibro, I just hope it won't costs a lot and that insurance will except it...

Hi,

I have several allergies....including codiene, M.S. and Percocet . I was allowed to "try" Vicodin with warning from Pharmacist. Vicodin is in the same family ........I felt itchy the first couple days and no problem since.

I also take a muscle relaxant most nights for the shoulder cramps. (Flexaril) It helps somewhat.

I started taking Atarax about 11 days ago and I am now hailing it as a miracle drug for me. It is an old safe standby.......anti-histamine with other uses. Sedation and pain med inhancer. I am still in wonder. My left shoulder has been locked up tight in pain for many years....now......it has loosened up and the pain is just a hurt plus the electric jolts are now just tingles and just once in a while. It is also not regarded as an addictive med.

I find it does not make me sleepy like the Flexaril did (which I am going to stop)

I am truthfully floored by the response I have had.........I have tried so many "nothings".

My prescription is for Atarax 25mg tabs 2 every 6 hours. I started at one morning and night. That it was a sugar pill.....went to 2 morning and night....alittle sleepy and woke up with one cup of coffee. After about 4 days I went to the every 6 hours.

I am sold on the drug. I can wiggle my shoulder up and down etc. I did not realize that Vistaril is a different form of the drug.

And.......since I am always having the sniffles due to allergies they are gone.I do notice a dry mouth in the morning....but then it is winter and I do without meds.

A lot of the older meds are making a come back as some work a whole lot
better than the newer medications...Makes ya wonder why they try us on the newer ones first
only to end up with a older medication, great suggestion Andrea..

Sometimes an antidepressent or a steroid medication can be used to help control pain. Or a strop opioid medication. Careful, some of them, especially the weak opioids have codeine in it. Hard to locate, but MSM cream has helped me in the past. If you are brave, you can go all natural and try accupuncture. If that is a little freaky, there is a thing called accubeads. THere are many nerves that are in your ears, these beads get put in your ears depending on what kind of pain your having is where the location is. It actually does lessen the pain. You get the beads by going to the accupuncturist (go figure). If you want a medication, I strongly suggest calling and making an appointment with your doctor. He or she can prescribe a proper medication that you can take. Make sure they have alll your medical records updated. That you cant take codeine or anti inflammatories. Hope this helps.

Susie, I still want it out but my GI says that I am not quite there yet. I am still flaring but mildly - or maybe it's just my new "normal". Right now my 6mp is keeping me out of severe flares. But if the time comes and the 6mp stops working, I will NOT do Remicade. I would much rather live with a bag or pouch. You know, I never thought about cutting the Skelaxin in half! Thanks for the idea :)

Smurfy, I did do accupuncture in the past but it was for muscle weakness and not for arthritis. It worked wonders so I may go back to the doc and see if he can help my hands. Thanks for reminding me!
