Hello, I am new here. I suffer from chronic pain from a few conditions. The thing is I am 29 with 4 kids and trying to go to school. This is my last semester and I am trying to handle it. I am so tired of taking pain medication, I even try not to take it but then I can barely move. When I take it I sleep almost the entire day so the doc gave me Adderall for that, now that does not work anymore. I guess I am just depressed. I can't grip the fact that in order to not be in pain everyday I am going to have to take these pills and if I do, I sleep my day away and with 4 kids you can't do that. I guess I just needed to vent. My mom moved in with me after my husband left me cause he couldn't handle it. I feel like she has taken over the role of mother because I can't do many things. I am losing it.

Hi deenewme!

And welcome to our family. I'm so sorry that you're in such pain and having medication problems is only making it worse. A couple of things to consider are... ask your doc about Provigil. It's for sleepiness caused by narcotic pain medication, along with other uses. I've been on it for about 6 months and it's made a huge difference.

Then, ask your doc for a referral to a pain counselor. Yep, they do exist and they can be very helpful when life is about to run you down. You did nothing to deserve this but since it's just how life is you need some help...professional help. Are you taking an antidepressant? I don't mean to sound like a pill pusher here but sometimes they are good for getting you back on track. Your doc needs to treat you as an entire person, not just one part that hurts....make sense?

I am also using Provigil for the same reason and have had great success. I was also prescribed Cymbalta, which is not only an antidepressant but also helps with pain control. Chutz's advice is excellent, as usual. Good luck.

This is a very difficult time in your life.
I have a lot of pain but I can sleep when I need it.
(I don't sleep at night)
Chutz had some really good words for you.
I tried Adderal yesterday (an old script)
It made my muscles real tight. REAL TIGHT.
It used to help me.
Did your doctor prescribe it strictly to keep you
awake or do you also have ADD?

Nerve damage in right let, arm, and neck with horrific nerve pain. Osteoarthritis in spine and hip. Bipolar, and anxiety disorder, PTSD. Taking Oxycontin 60mg OxyIR 30 as needed for breakthru pain, Valium 10mg, Xanax 2mg, Abilify 10mg, Adderall 20mg and seeing therapist.

I was taking Provigil for a while...I loved it! Until it got difficult to get. You have to go through a sleep study to be approved for a script...I was getting samples, but they don't even get them anymore at the Dr. office.

Good News Report!!!! I got my TennCare back as of yesterday... Hip Hip Hooray Now I don't have to shell out anymore $$$ when I go to the Dr. Or Pharmacy....Take That!!! I am among the insured again!!!

It depends on the insurance company & your plan. All I needed was a script. Different insurance companies have different requirements -- some don't pay for it at all, some require the script to be written by a psych, some require a dx of a sleep disorder, others will only pay if it is for an on-label use (i.e., narcolepsy or sleep shift disorder), others don't care & will cover as long as you have a script.

Best thing you can do is call your prescription insurer & find out what their policy is for covering Provigil.

It did work very well for me.
