Hello all,

I've been through a wirlwind yesterday & today! My doc took one look at the new MRI pics and said, we are doing surgery right away! Can you be in Miami on Friday? Good but first you need to get all your pre-opp tests done and we can do them here at 2:15pm. It was only 1:00pm as my apt. was at 11:30am so I raced back to work to try to get everything done for the afternoon in an hour! No time to post to my friends at HWCP! Raced back to the doc's office in the pouring rain! First rain in two months! Blood tests, EKG, lots of questions and oh yes a chest x-ray! I got out of there after 5:00pm and into the pouring rain and I-95 traffic jam for 2 hours! When I got home, I was spent and had to call my wife who got upset because of the short notice as she had to figure out how she could get down here w/ all the animals by Thurs. night. We have to be in Miami at 5:00am. I'm at work and getting slammed and have to go! Emergency for the 50th time today! I'll try to finish later!

I think these were the top notch doctors you trusted, right? And so you feel comfortable going ahead with surgery? Just checking! I'm pretty sure I recall another doctor telling you the same thing, so the sooner you get it done, the better.

We all will be thinking of you and sending lots of healing wishes, and I suspect others will also say to you TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!! It's your employer's responsibility to figure out what to do when an employee has urgent health needs and you do. So please don't try to be on the phone, etc. from your hospital bed! Or go back to work too early!

Your neck is a precious thing. You want to heal correctly so you can build those rods in your future business!

And don't worry about posting here. We'll know you'll do it when you can, and you'll know we'll be thinking of you the whole time!

Just real quick because they are really killing me here today! When I told my My boss this morning he said "Your killing me! and he wasn't kidding! I just couldn't believe my ears! I've been working here for almost 2 months w/ a pain level from 6 - 10 daily for him and he says that when I am finally going to get fixed! I might not come back at all!!! WHAT A JERK!!!

Pete,

I personally think you could do better than with that horrid boss you have. What
a champion jerk he is.

You'll feel so much better and safer after your surgery. It's just no good going
around with our kind of pain. I don't work. I don't do much of anything. We
have similar pain numbers. Mine would be more like a continual 8. Just once
did I have a 10. Rarely do I have a 6.

I don't know how you do it. I just know you do. Try to keep us informed as much
as possible. You know your fan club will be waiting to hear from you.

I'm so glad I'm having the MRI on my shoulder and C Spine on Monday. We're
invited out to a nice relaxing dinner tonight and all I can think of is .... Can I
make it? Will the pain show? Will I get loopy if I take an extra pill? Am I ok?
That's no way to live. I want to be better. You're the most recent pioneer.

Pete,
That job really might be killing you - all that stress. I'm serious! I would be one vote for your note going back, and staying out on disability for a good while until you're healed - and I mean really healed - and then deciding what your options are with you and your wife.

You can see just how much your boss really cares about YOU. He only cares about his work getting done.

Go off and get yourself all fixed up now!!

What a day! I just got home a while ago, 11.5 hrs of solid sprinting work! Everyone who was holding on to the problem orders brought them out today as they knew I wouldn't be around for a while! Then the formen in the feild called in order after order and loaded up on materials, some of them called 6 & 7 times each! Also renting machines, dumpsers and storage trailers! Well it's over now and I have to put my war paint on and get ready for the big event in the early AM! The hospital called and now they say be there by 4:45am> Yikes! We will have to leave at 3:15am because you never know what you'll run into down there, Miami like a different country, such a mix of people! My wife is on her way down with all the pets except for the horses of course. She's bringing my big old Dodge truck so we can brink my favorite recliner up there for me to, Ya know, RECLINE! My big old truck has seats like a recliner, my kids used to call it the couch. Hey Dad, can we take the couch to the store this time? I'm going back up there to the country to let her and the animals nurse me back to health at least for the first week so it will be much more comfortable than her 4-runner or my little Hyunda Korean racing car, all of 100hp and 34mpg. I bought it to give to Pete Jr. but he's getting deployed for 6-8 months and didn't want to leave it on Base that long so I'm still commuting over 75mi a day in it! The Doc said I'd be in for 2-3 days depending on the outcome and how well I'm doing. I thought it was going to be 1 - 2 days but thats OK. I don't really mind being in the hospital that much like a lot of people do. I've spent so much time in them over the years, its like a second home. I just hate how they wake you all the time at night for blood and whatnot. So my friends, I have lots to do so I better get moving. I have to clean up this dump before my spousal unit gets here and get myself cleaned up. I have to shower w/ some special soap to prevent infection.
I'll write when I can or get my wife to> I'll miss all of Y'all!

Good luck to you.....I for 1 am so glad you are going and getting taken care of!!  Hugs and good wishes for a successful surgery and speedy recovery!!  BUT...no work for you until you feel ready and tell your BOSS to pretend like he's you for the next few weeks and see what he puts you through on a daily basis!!

We will be thinking of you!

GOOD LUCK PETE!!!!!! I'll be thinking of you tomorrow & praying for you! Try not to worry too much tonight & to get a good night's sleep. So glad to hear that your wife will be taking care of you for a while. Please, please take it easy after surgery! Forget about work. Just focus on getting yourself better. Healing well (no pun intended) is more important than having an angry boss! We'll look forward to hearing from you whenever you can! You will be thoroughly missed!

cool   cool cool Pete I am so glad that you are going to get fixed up.I also agree with Pa. and Pam about your work as I have told you in the past.

               When you are recuperating from surgery I hope you will give a lot of thought about retiring.Good luck with the surgery.

Hey Pete, just think tomorrow you will wake up and hopefully alot of that old neck pain will be gone and the pain you will awake to is from the surgery. Just remember surgery pain will go away. Woohoo!!!! Stay out of cars until you have been to your dr for 6 wk post op visit. I can't tell you how excited we are for you. That young doc you liked so well will do a wonderful job on you. Pete,

Good luck to you in your surgery.....I hope that you find that you are feeling a whole lot better and in a lot less pain once you get past the post op stuff.....take it easy, follow the directions of the doctor and your post op instructions.

Take care and let us know how you are doing once you are up to it......

Echoing Sandi's thoughts! I know you may not read this for awhile, or maybe yoru wife will, and either way take it easy!!! Follow your doctor's instructions, and err on the conversative side (which is exactly the opposite of what you'll want to do!). That means SLOW DOWN!

WOW Pete I have been out of town since early yesterday morning so i missed your post, I assume that it your your out of surgery by now, I hope everything went well for you, Take care my friend! and  screw your job!  you just take care of yourself and take time to heal up properly! That is going to be your most important priority!  We all want you to Get Well!!

 i don't post much! I hope the surgery went well! i hope that, it gets you out of pain! Your Boss sounds like the one I had! I Got hurt in 2002, worked untill Dec 2006, when my boss would come out to check things out, he allways seen that i was in pain, and he would have the nerve to say " Your back still hurting you"! I guess a lot of people don't see the real side to there boss untill things are not going the way they want it to!

 Pete I will pray tonight that everything went well, and that when you recover from the surgery you are out of pain!

Hi Pete:

I am so sorry that I did not see your posts yesterday so that I could wish you well before you went in for your surgery, my CP runs about an 8 - 9 every day, but the last three days it has been a 9.5, it is all I can do to keep from going to the ER. I never even turned my computer on yesterday.

You will be in my thoughts and I pray that your chronic pain will be gone or at the very least significantly reduced.

I know that the surgical pain can be absolutely brutal, but remember it is temporary.

Please allow yourself the time you need to heal without feeling guilty - you have to put yourself first during your recovery to get the best results from the surgery and so that you can be that rock that everyone depends on once you are well.

Aw Pete,

I wasn't on yesterday, so I missed your post. Of course, I wish you all the best with your surgery which has to be over by now. So you are on the road to recovery and soon you will be on the mend and after you are healed, you will be out of pain, pray God. As a matter of fact, I will be praying for you for a great outcome.

Everybody loves you Pete, and for good reason. You are a terrific guy. Remember that and don't let the boss thing push your buttons, my friend.
