Usually this would be more of an issue with an insurance company, but you don't use insurance so...

I can only base my particular response on what I've had happen to me personally.

I've had even opioids prescribed in various amounts (# pills) and even overriding periods, to cover just the kind of thing you are talking about. But my issue was what the insurance company would allow, not what the state would allow.

I think your doctor should be ok with writing the scripts as long as he understands the issue is when you will be able to afford how much.

At times I only get half my script. I realize some controlled narcotics you can not. But my percs are not on that list. My insuance company only pays for 180 pills a month if I get anymore then that I have to cover it. You should be fine. One call to your pharmacy should get you all your questions answered.

Pamela yes being friends with your pharmacy is a WONDERFUL idea. I love my pharmacist. We live in a little down named Symrna-LaVerge and theres one drug store that has grown so much in the last 10 yrs but they still stay close to there customers. Jerry the pharmacist is so great. You call him and hell know your family by name. He remembers everything. He found me some wonderful doctors over the years. Only drawback is hes closed on the weekends but thats ok hes got three little boys so he doesn't open on the weekends.

So kara become best friends with you pharmacy. I even get mine to fill my scripts and charge me on payday.....lol He'll give me enough to get me through until the next friday hes GREAT!

Please note that post-dating scripts is illegal under U.S. law. I have even seen people get red-flagged by their PM just for asking about that. Here's the statement from the DEA:
"The DEA regulations require that all prescriptions for controlled substances "be dated as of, and signed on, the day when issued.'' 21 CFR 1306.05(a)."

You can check your state law to see how long scripts are valid for. My doc will write me for a one-week prescription & a 3-week prescription. They are both dated the day of my visit & in IL C2 scripts are valid for 7 days, so it works out okay for me. Otherwise, you might try seeing if your doc will either mail you a 2nd script or let you come in and pick one up.

you cant do that here they cant fill partial script for percocet at the pharmacy . if you just get some of it you cant get the rest later.

I'm sorry that it's come to this. It sucks big time! about a week or so ago I offered to help you out as a friend when you said you were losing your on-line services. I was dead serious at the time, I would have sent you a check that very day, let God be my witness, I was telling you the truth! I can understand you not wanting me to know your adress, after all, I'm just some guy on the internet, you don't know me and I am sorry if I scared you in any way. What I don't understand is, you didn't even answer me! No explanation, no no thank you I'd rather not, nothing! I thought I was being rather generous offering you some $$$ because I don't know you either, you could be just some scammer crying about something that isn't true! You'll have to forgive me for being so blunt as I'm not in a very good place right now but I just don't understand why you didn't acknowlage me at all??? You are so incredibly generous, and you have every right to feel slighted by not getting any response at all. I have only been a part of this forum for about two months, and it is so obvious that you, Whitebeard, & PAlady, as well as a couple of others, are the solid foundation that keep this "house" standing. With all you've had going on in your life the last couple of months with your surgery, recovery, and returning to work (way earlier than you should have, I might add), to be not just thinking about others, but worrying about them to the point that you were compelled to extend that kind of offer to someone you don't know, who could easily be a scam artist, deserves heartfelt gratitude, or at the very least a thanks but no thanks.

I am sorry if I'm sticking my nose where it doesn't belong, but it really makes me sad.

They changed the regulations pertaining to post dated scripts some in Jan of last year and under the new laws methadone can be given in 2 seperate scripts but they must have several things on those scripts first to be valid.

They have to be dated for the date in which you get them and they must be for 30 days supply and they must state not to be filled for 30days or until this date ??-??-??. It actually has to be part of the written script. I have found alot of Docs are not using the new regs and I cant say why other then mine is afraid that folks wont actually give both scripts to the pharm and one may get lost or stoled or the dog eats it.

As for getting part of a perc script the regs say you only have 72 hours to obtain the remainder or lose it and an entirely new script has to be written. Remember this because many a times someone has left a script and came back to pick it up only to find that they didnt have enough to fill the entire thing and if they dont get it before that 72 hour deadline and even if it is their bad you lost the rest of your meds and the Docs seem to get a little irritated at rewriting them.

The most correct way would be for him to write one for a weeks worth and another for 3 weeks works as someone said but alot of Docs will not do this and there are several valid reasons why. It also can mean another Doc visit for you or at least a run in and pick up and some offices even charge what they call a "nurses fee" for that.

The DEA keeps count of all narcotic scripts written by each Doc issued a dea number and this is one of the reasons that some of them dont like to write more then one a month for each patient since it raises the amount of scripts written associated with their dea number in the course of a month. Sounds crazy but with the ever watchful eye of the policing organizations I suppose you sure dont want to be in the higher categories huh? It also makes a difference in what kind of Docs doing the writing as well as you would expect a PM doc to write far more narcotics then say a proctologist wouldnt you?

Anyway I would explain to him what the deal is and see which way works out best for both of you. I think even Doctors can feel the crunch of the economy better today then they did a few years ago when it was hard for them to understand "no money" Lol

I think we should have a sticky thread about Members who are will to help with $$$....lol  I would jump on it with Pete to help my fellow friends.  On this site I receive such loving comfort that if there is anything I can do I would jump at it without repayment just to help.  What I have received from this forum is and has been priceless no amount of money could ever repay all of you 

A sticky thread is a thread that will never rotate off. I feel the same way you do, I'm also not rich but at times I spend money on useless stuff. One day I will have to medically retire which will effect our income but as long as I am able my soul will be lighter to help. I do understand peoples concern about crazies on the internet, my daughter is 16 and I'm always on her about privacy. She has an ad on Craigs list for babysitting throughout the summer and she is set up to watch a 3 yr old 4 days a week for a man from England who is coming to Nashville on construction business. So to say we are all over that making sure she is not in danger. It will be very strict on meeting him and his child and I will go with her the first few times and stay with her for the day.

Our society has gotten so dangerous. But at least some of us know your not lurking in the background..lol

I used to work in a pharmacy (in PA) until recently.  I'm not sure if it works this way everywhere or not, but we had a policy that you only paid for your prescription if you received the full balance.  If we didn't have enough of the medication in stock, we would give the patients a partial amount of the prescription at no charge, and then they would pay for the total balance of pills whenever the rest of them came in.  I think what you could do is ask the pharmacist if they could do this for you.  See if they will just give you enough pills to last you until the day you can pay, and then stop back whenever you can afford to pay for them and get the balance.  I'm not positive, but I think this should work if you can't get two prescriptions.

On December 4th 2008 my PM wrote 4 scripts.

2 each for Morphine and for Methadone.

And as indicated, the comments/wording stated on the first one just the normal wording, with the enhancement as usual that 'this prescription must last until January 1st 2009".
But on the second pair it stated that the script "could not be filled until December 29th 2009, and must last until January 30th 2009". (The dates may not be perfect since they come from memory)

In other words, he stated right on the prescription the dates of the prescriptions, and that they must last until, and not be filled prior to, the appropriate dates.

If I was going to cheat, it would be no different that if I held back on some pills for whatever reason.

So, same as what some are saying on here. Can do, with the doctor being protected by following some very simple rules.

I talked some time ago about having 'extra' meds because I wasn't needing as many BT meds as I was being given. I brought that up at the last appointment and I was told to just keep them for a rainy day, and maybe bring it up at the next appointment and maybe we drop the number of breakthrough meds.

And as to the 'just a few' issue, my pharmacy has been giving me 'a few to get me to my next appointment' for a couple of years now. I think it is a matter of TRUST; how long you've known them, really. It NEVER hurts to ask. NEVER.
