G'day everyone, my son is going into hospital to have 4 wisdom teeth removed by surgery as they are growing along his gums.

Has anyone had this done and how long will it take to heal?

Ankylosing Spondylitis, Hypertension, type2 Diabeties, mild epilepsy

My medications are Salazopyrin 3000mg, plaquinal 100mg, morphine 40mg twice daily,coversyl 10mg, diaformin sr 3000mg, actrapid injection sliding scale + 6 units in morning, lantos solostar 16 units,epilum 400mg, omeprazol 20mg, amlodipine 5mg and panadien forte and tremadol 50mg when needed.

Reverend 2 of my kids have had to have this done.It is hard on them and some get more sick then others so just keep a eye on him and hope that he is a fast healer.

I had it done a couple years ago and I looked like a chipmunck for a week, the pain was terrible but ibprofen helped alot, even better then the narcotics they gave, actually the pain got so bad that they had me come in ever other day to put in the numbing stuff that tasted so nasty and took a month for the taste to go away butit was well worth it since it numbed up the are very well. But lucky me a month later an infection set in, the dr said it was very rare to get an infection that much later, and that hurt ALOT, so they had to do surgery again to fix that. It is a horrible pain and I got my new white robe stained with blood the first night cause I fell asleep curled up on the couch and blood drooled all down my face and neck and robe, I was complately covered in dried blood, it was so gross. But luckly I had all 4 done at once, even though only one needed it at the time but this place had a huge waiting list (people with medicaid has to wait)and I happened to got in the next day so I told them to just go ahead and pull out all four. But hopefully things go well for your sons, it isnt fun but a part of life, alot of people I know had to get them pulled out throuh surgery too.

Thanks, he goes in wednesday and they said they are going to knock him out as they are not showing through

I had this done in high school. The biggest deal was that I looked like a chipmunk, as someone said! So it seemed like the world was coming to an end (as a teenager, ya know, it's a big deal to look like a chipmunk!). Keep a lot of ice packs handy. That's always been the thing that's helped with mouth pain for me, even when I had to have gum surgery.

My husband had his done by the Air Force, all four pulled at once, it common thing
to do, but your son, will be very very sore for a few days, so make sure he has good pain
control for this...

Hi there.  My 24-year-old daughter just had all four of hers out after Christmas.  Hers were mostly erupted.  She was under general anesthesia and it lasted probably 10 to 15 minutes start to finish.  After wards, she was woozy and they had her sit in the chair for awhile as we (nurse and I) talked about the care afterwards.  During this time my daughter alternated between smiling stupidly, trying to talk and just trying to act normal. After some minutes, we helped her walk to the car and I drove her home.  She was given pain killers and antibiotics and strict instructions on how to brush, rinse her mouth, and eat/drink for about a week.  That first day she slept/watched TV and slept.  The next day she was normal.  A week later they took the stitches out.  Be sure to follow their instructions (they'll most likely give you a sheet of paper.).  Good luck.  This is routine nowadays - he'll be fine.

I had this done many years ago and the first day I mostly slept. The next day wasn't so good. Just make sure you have something that you can put ice in that helped alot and also have plenty of soup and mashed potatoes thats what I eat for over a week. Hope everything goes well GOOD LUCK =]

I have to have this done this summer. My sister had hers out several years ago. It was basically as the other's have described. I am not looking forward to getting my wisdom teeth out. I've been putting it off for 2-3 yrs because my body just does NOT respond well to any type of trauma & I didn't need to have one more thing to worry about/go wrong. But I can't wait much longer now. All four are about 1/2 way in, but there isn't enough room & they are really starting to pinch and interfere with eating, etc. Best of luck! I hope things go smoothly for both you & your son!

I just dont understand the whole point of us even having wisdom teeth anyways. Lucky me (not!), when I had braces, they pulled all my teeth back so the wisdom teeth had no room to come out, so they where just pushing agaisnt the other back tooth, so they had to cut into my gums to remove them, but they didnt give me the option of being put to sleep, actually I had to pay $50 out of pocket just for laughing gas, cause medicaid doesnt like to pay for things like that, which isnt fair, it was traumatizing to me. My daughter gets put under whenever she has any teeth work done cause she's scared to death of the dentist, last time they tried to do it without it she threw up on the dentist's assistant. She gets laughing gas for normal teeth cleaning, but other then that, she gets put under, which makes me terribly sick, I always get dizzy and feel like I'm going to pass out, having yourself and your kids put under is two completly diffrent things, like having your child's life under the care of a stranger, it doesnt sit well with me. But last time she was put under, she came home and told me "look at all those pretty stars" and she kept screaming that a big black monkey was about to jump off the ceiling on to my head, it was pretty funny. And the first thing she did when she came out of the ansthesia was asked for dingdongs, but she doesnt remember asking for them, so she was wondering why when she woke up (or when the meds wore off and knew what she was doing)at home later that evening why there was a huge box of dingdongs on the table by her. Also they told me that when children wake up from ansthsia that it was normal for them to cry, but my daughter didnt want to wake up, she would look at us and close her eyes, she was at peace.

Make sure He doesn't get "dry sockets". That is were the blood clot falls off too soon and the nerves are exposed. I had this happen on two of mine. Horrible pain and they have to pack the socket with treated gauze every couple days to get it to heal correctly. They told me to call them if the pain got worse, but it didn't get worse it just didn't get any better. So at the 1 week check up they asked why I didn't call them to let them know it was this bad. Like I said, it was any worse it just didn't get any better. So please watch him close and make sure the pain does get better and not linger as mine did.

Thankyou all so much and now we can prepare ourselves for wednesday,
The docs from Rockhampton base rang us and said they were not happy with the pre op that our local hospital had done so we must go up a day early now, it seems they had a report from the anesthesiest about his heart mermer and when they filled out the reports they did not metion it at all , to say they were not happy and said our local hospital was not doing their job.

Will let everyone no when we know more and thankyou. Your a caring bunch and we luvs ya
